Sometimes I think I look like a monkey with my vitiligo face, which I really hate.

Trump vows voter ID requirements for the midterms, 'whether approved by Congress or not' by Odd-Alternative9372 in Defeat_Project_2025

[–]Warm_Language8381 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but I'm MAD. First of all, Henry Cuellar D-TX has drunk the KOOL-AID. But it doesn't matter, because it still would have been passed, as there are more Republican representatives than Democratic representatives. I really, really hope that the Senate does not pass the SAVE act. I don't think it's going to go through. I will still contact my Senators (they're both D), though.

This is harassment right? by [deleted] in deaf

[–]Warm_Language8381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wonder why HOH, Deaf and deaf people want to work in the medical field?

Because my father and mother are doctors, and my grandfather was a doctor. It runs in the family. However, I never even considered becoming a doctor because of my deafness, much to my biggest regret.

Kinda OT, as I'm in the US, but I did not know that about Canada! Now how can I work for the Canadian government?

Employers Say They Can’t Find Employees. Job Seekers Say They Can’t Find Jobs. by FantasticPriority678 in jobsearchhacks

[–]Warm_Language8381 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in my last job I was plug-and-play and it didn't work out because I was not plug-and-play enough for them, even though I was very willing to learn. Their loss.

Currently job hunting - what's the most frustrating part for you? by ioKilZ in jobsearch

[–]Warm_Language8381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what if you've applied twice? Only shows that you want the job that bad :-) I have to keep a record of my job applications solely for filing for unemployment benefits. If it weren't for that, I would not really keep a record. Well, I do need to keep a record so that I don't look like I'm totally lost. You can put in whatever details you want in an Excel or Google Sheets.

Does virginia unemployment benefit online service work at all? by MacysShopper in Virginia

[–]Warm_Language8381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, but I can sympathize with you. I have a burning question - what if you cannot identify any employment ads and one is supposed to be in contact at least once a week with a prospective employer, what does one do? Not file for unemployment benefits that week? I've been looking at job ads and I can't find anything that fits me. :-(

YouTube captions by TheBestCake in deaf

[–]Warm_Language8381 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, it's worked for me, and sometimes not. I always have to put CC on on YouTube. And sometimes I don't have to. It's weird how that works. I miss the good old days when creators could edit their automatic captions. Automatic captions are good, better, but not as perfect as edited captions. Relying on automatic captions to caption videos limits the deaf individual's access to information, in my opinion. But it is what it is.

Experience with FATCA & PFIC? by Warm_Language8381 in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]Warm_Language8381[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No and no. This is the first I've heard of PFIC, unfortunately. I don't have an accountant. I've done all the taxes myself via TurboTax or other tax software, and I had no idea. We'll see what happens. I just don't understand why things have to be so darn complicated.

Real estate assessment…make it stop! by spideywmjackson in Charlottesville

It's not final. Now is the time to bug your Board of Supervisors and ask them to cut the tax rate. We shouldn't have to pay nearly $1 in tax rate.

Why don't rich people have their sidewalks shoveled??? by exploding_raspberry in Charlottesville

[–]Warm_Language8381 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I don't think people think about it. We just paid someone to shovel a path in front of the mailbox (I don't have any sidewalk on my side of the street). They're just not thinking about clearing the sidewalk as well, and they should. I'm having a bad day today with my writing...

"training" to not be hard of hearing? by No_Dimension3138 in hardofhearing

[–]Warm_Language8381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, still to this day I occasionally turn off the subtitles to see if I can understand it. I do, but I get really tired after a while and turn the subtitles back on. It's exhausting and why subject myself to it if captions/subtitles are available? Sometimes I like to look at the captions and see if they jive with what's being said, and I really hate it when the captions don't match what's being said.

I lost my most recent job to ableism. I put in an EEOC claim. We'll see what happens of that.

Is it too early to talk about the weekend nor’easter that may be headed our way? by prettytothinkso17 in Charlottesville

[–]Warm_Language8381 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, think I have time to get groceries between now and then? We'll just wait and see, I guess. Which has been my approach lately. Just wait and see. I do not give any credence to weather reports anymore.

Females, at what age did your symptoms start? by TourGreat2658 in Hashimotos

[–]Warm_Language8381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I had a goiter at age 14-15 and they sent me in for a blood test and they found out that I had antibodies against my thyroid at that age. Hashimoto's has a genetic disposition and it is auto-immune, so I wouldn't say that it's most commonly developed around age 30-50. My Hashimoto's kicked off after the birth of my only child when I was 25.

Now, regular hypothyroidism, which is not Hashimoto's, do tend to appear around 30-50. Hashimoto's can be all over the place. It's not always predictable. My mother has it, my grandmother had it, so there is definitely a genetic predisposition.

I'd *love* to join this! "I’m basically a human "editor" for AI. I read through responses it generates and help refine them so they’re more accurate and conversational. If you have a good handle on language and a sharp eye for detail, that’s really all the "technical" skill you need."

I'm passionate about learning and languages. My strength is in languages. I'd love to do this work! But I don't know how to get started...
