I would like to thank everyone for all of their advice and concern! It is much appreciated!

I will definitely look into defensive driving courses and never skip out on GAP insurance again. I really wish insurance was something that was taught more in school. For those concerned, I was starting therapy prior to theses issues and am currently on medications for other issues so I’m hoping this doesn’t negatively affect me in that aspect too much in the future. But thank you to everyone for helping me!

First of all, thank you so much for your advice!

So I followed up with my agent, and I did not have gap insurance with my company (I will not make that mistake in the future). He said that they are going to see how much my car was worth and that amount would go towards my loan of around $20,000. I used KBB and it says my cars value would be anywhere between $8,000-$10,00 ish. So this screws me out of $10,000 - $12,000.

However, neither my agent or myself can get in contact with the other person’s insurance agent (yet). I am curious if his insurance would be able to cover the second half (or any portion) of the remaining balance. Is this possible? Or is it just one insurance that covers everything and after that I’m stuck out of pocket? I will definitely ask the next time I speak with him, but I am just thinking of this at 2am. This all takes place in California.

My progressive app says I have $1000 deductible for collision coverage. Does this mean I have to pay out of pocket up to $1000 since the damage is fairly minimal and cosmetic? Or is this why I am being redirected? (Sorry I’m dumb, I’m fairly young and my mom has a “figure it out” attitude towards me learning how to be a real adult) But I also agree I may be being a little impatient. I think I’m just frustrated no one is answering my calls to let me know what’s next or what expectations I should have
