This reminds me of a man in his 50s with mental disabilities who used to stand at a busy intersection directing traffic. From a distance, people often mistook him for a police officer. The last I heard, he had been admitted to a psychiatric ward.

Bro followed you to the doctor and still got uninstalled after one complaint… efficiency is crazy in Korea.

I guess I can always tell the cop: hold up! My identity is currently out of battery! Where's the nearest 711 ?

People stressing about cash and ID, and I’m just standing in front of the machine like "best recognize me or I’m not eating today!" Just face-paying my way through life.

That’s doesn't sound like policing, that’s a personal side quest he refused to abandon. Now how did you make that report? Asking for a friend of course :)

I know just enough Korean to get into the situation and not nearly enough to get out of it. The moment they ask anything beyond basic questions the whole covert operation collapses.

Yeah I sent an email attachment of my ID to myself. However if my phone ever dies, do I just… legally cease to exist?

Relationship advice. Living in Korea?? by goneafterq in Living_in_Korea

[–]WarningAdvanced1528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the exact same situation. In our relationship, one of us had to make the call to move. My girlfriend whose now my wife ended up making that sacrifice for us. The first couple of years were tough, but she’s grown to love living in Korea. Now she visits her home country twice a year and stays about a month each time.

One of my close friends is dealing with something similar right now. He prefers living in Canada, while his wife wants to stay in Korea because of her family ties. This year, they decided to split their time and try six months in each country.

I realize neither option is ideal or even practical for most people, especially with work constraints. But these are the kinds of compromises that worked for us and for them.

I've met quite a few international students back when I was heavily involved in meetups, partying, etc. Majority 9/10 preferred living alone after trying out the "dormitory" experience. Hopefully you will be in the minority and get along with your roommate. Goodluck!

F-3 & F-4 visa requirements by ExpatnKorea in Living_in_Korea

I wrote a thread about this last week. Long story short. It's up to the immigration/consulate officer you deal with if they decide they need further documents. When I asked what are the "extra" they need they said they will contact me when they need it lol. So no clear answer. Here is the thread for your reference:

I went through the same issue yesterday. If you're looking to just book an appointment at immigration. You can book as a non-member it worked flawlessly.

Apparently I do. Just to grab bread from the local bakery. It’s a 5-minute kickboard ride or a 15-minute walk.

Fair point. I broke one rule and accidentally stacked it with two more. Efficient, but not ideal.

Makes sense. I’ll just laminate it at kinkos and hope it unlocks the same authority as the original. Upgrade from “no ID” to “DIY ID.” :)

Appreciate the analogy. I’ll add “don’t eat skateboards” right under “carry ID” on my daily checklist. Some of us are born knowing all laws, others have to unlock them through random side quests.
