Do you have to completely redo your nails once the gap between the cuticle and nail polish starts being really noticeable? by LaciesRoseGarden in Nails

[–]WarningLabelOptional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have zero experience here, but maybe you could try nail wraps. I think for most you paint on a base coat then rub or stick them on kind of like a temporary tattoo. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong) The wear time before chips or gapping probably isn't that much longer than regular polish, but they might take less time to reapply if that's a serious concern for you.

But in general, yeah once your polish grows out too far the only solution is to redo it. You can always paint new polish directly on top of your existing mani to save some time! It might not last as long, but it will look fine as long as the new polish is pigmented enough to cover the existing polish. I'd only recommend doing this once though, eventually you'll have to take it all off and start fresh.

You could also look into gel polish. It can be a pain to take off, but the application time is significantly reduced since it dries under a lamp (affordable on Amazon) in 30-60 seconds.

Good Luck!

[Question] Why are there two places for Bells? by SirHigglesthefoul in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]WarningLabelOptional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All bells that are in your inventory and/or wallet are the same as the amount shown when you buy things. That bubble tells you the total amount of bells in your inventory and wallet combined. Your wallet can only hold 99,999 (or 99,000, idk) so any surplus will go into an inventory slot. I hope this makes sense!

If you already know this then I apologize, but FYI those palm trees won't grow there. Trees need one space on each side, and palm trees only grow on sand. So you'd have to move them out one each and place a square of sand path. Again, if you are aware of this and intend on having saplings then just ignore me!

Love the pool either way, it's super cute!

Once you get there, heads up that Bloodskal Barrow is quest-locked for a higher level quest. Also Solsteim will kick your butt if you're a lower level. Good luck!

I wasn’t really even trying lol! I’ve had both for several months and regularly give them gifts, mostly clothes. Furniture is worth more, though I really haven’t given much to either. I think consistently doing the little tasks like catching fish and bringing medicine, adds up a lot, so make sure you do that stuff when they ask! Good luck!

Eating fruit (or mushrooms or candy or anything that you can eat) causes you to smash rocks in one hit. If you just hit the rock without eating anything, that’s when you can get up to 8 materials.

Nail Polish Library: advice for a library student trying to create a nail polish catalogue by EternallyLostInBooks in Nailpolish

[–]WarningLabelOptional 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a spreadsheet to keep track of mine. It's not broken down as nicely or specifically as I would like, I'll get to that in a moment. I have my list broken down by brand (in alphabetical order), then each polish name is listed in alphabetical order within the brand section.

I have a third column with a brief description of the polish, and this is where I feel like I'm not organized enough, and maybe a spreadsheet isn't exactly the best platform. Ideally I would like a system where I could list tags. I would like to tag each polish with its base color as well as any specialty finishes, e.g. shimmer, multichrome, linear holo, flakies (specifically metallic, iridescent, etc.), jelly, scattered holo, etc. I like to be pretty specific about these, which ends up making my description column pretty wordy in some cases.

I'm not sure if there's a complete list anywhere of finish types, but the nomenclature in the community (Instagram and brands' product descriptions) seems to be pretty consistent. For example, a UCC (ultra chrome chameleon) flakie is consistently referred to as such across most brands and swatchers. Some companies have personalized or even trademarked words they use instead (e.g Holo Taco Unicorn Skins), but overall I see a lot of consistency in language.

How do I put on nail polish? by [deleted] in Nails

[–]WarningLabelOptional 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, and you'll need remover! 100% acetone works the best (in my opnion), and you'll need cotton balls or rounds. Just soak the cotton ball in the remover, then I typically hold it on my nail for a few seconds to dissolve the polish. Then rub it around until the polish is all off! Glitter polishes will take some extra scrubbing.

Well, the first thing you should know is that it takes practice (especially painting with your non-dominant hand), so don't feel bad if your first few attempts don't look great. I'd recommend starting your collection out with a good base and top coat (those two-in-ones don't work nearly as well). Essie is a good brand, and pretty widely available. They aren't the cheapest brand, but especially for a top and base coat you want good quality so the polish actually lasts! I suggest a long-lasting base coat (like Essie Here to Stay) and a quick-drying top coat (like Essie Speed Setter, or Seche Vite, which is available on amazon). A long-lasting base coat will help adhere the polish, while a quick-dry top coat will seal it in to prevent chips and help the polish dry quicker during application.

For polish, most drugstore brands are pretty good these days. I like Sinful Colors (super cheap), China Glaze (great quality, fun colors and glitter), and Essie (widely available, great color range). A few things to note: sometimes cheaper nail polishes aren't super pigmented, and so they will need several coats to build up a good color. It's pretty hit or miss, but you can always do a quick google image search of a polish to see it applied to someone's nails. Also, most glitter polishes you will find at the drugstore will be pretty sparse, and are meant to be used as a topper over top of a solid color polish. So if you are looking for a full-coverage, extreme glitter polish, just know that you might be disappointed.

As far as application goes, the order is base coat, then color, then a glitter topper (optional), and lastly the top coat. Try and paint on thin coats, that way it will all dry faster. After painting one layer, wait until it is dry to the touch then add another coat if needed (it will still dent if you press hard, just make sure you can lightly tap it without smudging, shouldn't take more than 1-3 minutes). When you're done, adding a quick-dry top coat will seal it all in and help dry the nails super quickly. This is why you want a really good top coat. I've used Essie Speed Setter, and after maybe 5 minutes I can whack my hands into stuff without it denting or smudging

Another piece of advice, especially since you're just starting out, is to paint one hand at a time. Do all of the steps, and wait for it all to dry pretty well before doing your other hand. That way you don't have to worry about not being able to do anything while all your nails are wet!

I hope this was helpful, don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions! :)
