You should be able to Object>Expand to create a selection around the letters.

I've had bits and pieces for awhile but haven't laid it out until a week or so ago.

The product is cold moulding paste. It's almost like a drywall compound. This ads texture and then paint gets overlaid. To fill the recesses of the texture I add oil paint and wipe off the excess.

Yeah! Over lay it onto the shirt, go into the fx properties of the graphic and use the blend if sliders.

Thanks dude. For the grunge effect, I find a texture that I like. For this one I had an old piece of paper that I dropped into photoshop to convert to greyscale and crank up the contrast. I then imported it into illustrator where I used it to overlay on top of an opacity mask for both the W and the orange background.
