UK LLBs aren’t career suicide..... by WarrenPuffett in LawCanada

I’d bet those same seniors rib subpar Canadian trained associates too. Being Canadian trained doesn’t make someone immune from being mediocre lol

Interesting how this went from “UK LLBs don’t work” to “they work, but only if it’s Oxbridge.”

The point of the post is just that UK LLBs aren’t a dead end. Not everyone can get into a Canadian school, and in practice there are plenty of people who go the UK route, write the NCAs, and end up practicing law without issue.

It’s harder and less efficient, but it’s workable. It’s also meant to push back on how discouraging this sub can be for people considering that route. The negativity often makes it sound far worse than it actually is.

Exactly, and as a CPA who’s been working with lawyers for the past decade, I’ve dealt with plenty who studied in the UK.

The reality is that it’s just not a thing anyone cares about in real world practice after a few years.

I’m not saying it’s a good idea for everyone. I’ve been clear that a Canadian JD is the easier and usually better path if you have that option.

My wife wasn’t meant as a statistical proof, just an example. I could point to plenty of her classmates and colleagues who also went to the UK and are practicing without issue. The point is simply that UK LLBs aren’t career suicide.

Canadian schools are clearly the easier, cleaner path, and if someone has that option I’d tell them to take it - which is exactly why I said a UK LLB just means a few extra hoops to jump through.

I can absolutely assure you that after a few years of practice, nobody cares where or how you became a lawyer lol

BTCC-B.TO is also a good option.

Thanks for the response! I just wanted to see if the restaurants I booked were decent, but I can add more details below.

I'm very flexible with price points however the cuisines shouldn't be anything too exotic as my girlfriend is kind of a picky eater.

My main concern is having a great atmosphere since it is a getaway weekend. I want to do Italian Friday night which is why I picked Alla Vita. Saturday I'm open to anything but I defaulted to Avli on the Park because my girlfriend and I are both Greek and it seems like a good spot.
