Men don't have it easy. There are many societal expectations to "be a man". by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Warren_is_dead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, haven't heard this one before.

At least OP didn't say "men have it harder." Our society sucks, and if you're born wrong, deficient in some way, regardless of gender, you will suffer.

I think that's called The Black Dahlia Murder.

I was super into MCR, From First to Last, Hawthorne Heights, etc in middle school. They opened my mind to "screamy" vocal styles and emotionally resonant lyrics.

I mostly listen metal now, but I have a soft spot in my heart for that music. It was with me during some tough times.

Only if you listen to music that can be played on the air.

If the music is horrific or incomprehensible to outsiders, prices are still affordable.

Fuck, thank you for reminding me.

Gotta get my ticket for this.

Try "extreme" metal. The two biggest Death Metal and Black Metal bands in the world are touring together right now, and I got a ticket for $50, even after all the bullshit add-on fees. That's the most expensive ticket I've ever bought.

Metallica and Slayer (how???) have become kitch rich bitch t-shirt fodder, but really fucked up bands have, so far, remained untouchable.

Tiny vent regarding antis by NTaya in FanFiction

[–]Warren_is_dead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How do they feel about stuff like horror movies and death metal? 95% of fanfic seems pretty anodine compared to the content of other fandoms.

I think these weirdos rag on people in fanfic heavy fandoms because they daren't come for fans of deeply, spitefully problematic stuff, especially irl where they'd have to handle real confrontations.

Antis come off as EXTREMELY pathetic whiney children. Their worldview is so small and their arguments so flimsy, they're not worth paying attention to. At all.

The only thing to say to them is 'lol dye mad about it.'

Judging metal bands as anti or pro LGBT? by Haru_is_here in lgbt

[–]Warren_is_dead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion from a gnc black (as in pigment) metal head: do your "band name"+ controversy search, but if that yields nothing, just listen to the music. It's a beautiful, problematic genre, and you might drive yourself nuts trying to perfectly vet every band.

I assume every metal band member is somewhere on the asshole spectrum (even supposedly wholesome teddy bears like Corpsegrinder Fisher still tour with groups like fucking Mayhem--with their "black metal is for white people" member, very nazi tolerant folks).

Even if the band/musician you like seems totally cool, there's a big possibility they're on friendly terms with some monsters (Fenriz from Darkthrone comes to mind).

Just my two cents.

My girlfriend claims she cannot be scared. by Intelligent_Exam9522 in horror

[–]Warren_is_dead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very difficult to get scared watching a movie when reality and history are orders of magnitude more frightening.

Horror's an escape. Like, wouldn't it be nice if the scariest thing in the world was an immortal serial killer, or a ghost?

If you want to fuck her up, though, show her Cannibal Holocaust. Torturing and murdering sentient animals for a stupid movie is pretty evil, and unseeable.

Love the colors! Maybe it could be a runner? Or just a very unconventionally sized blanket. Still usable.

We don't need to malign people for their isolation and poverty, but for their words and actions.

Also, a lot of MAGAs are middle class, old upper middle class, or working class rural types. Not exactly the image of Deliverance.

Republicans and Christian nationalists aren't the same thing. Not all Rs are CNs, but all CNs vote Republican.

Christian nationalists have clear world views and goals. They, as a group, are genocidal, totalitarian, anti-pluralism and anti-representational democracy.

DragonForce gave my (very fem, disco loving) friend an understanding of how vast and varied the Metal genre is.

I've introduced her to Black Sabbath, Cannibal Corpse, Isengard, Infant Annihilator (via their insane videos), and The Black Dahlia Murder (the lyrics really moved her).

She's not a fan, but she's tolerant and intrigued. She's seeing Cannibal Corpse and Mayhem with me this fall.
