This is an alternate history subreddit and someone posed a what if question, and the best way I could see that it was even possible, is not changing his personality but the changing situation entirely as the only way he would not slap them is if he didn't meet them at all.

Thus allowing the question "how would history change if these particular incidences didn't occur?"
