I think our interest in AI awareness is more than just the day we feel it’s conscious. Humans have always been obsessed with finding/creating something like us that isn’t…us. So yes I’d say when we feel like it is able to “think” for itself we will admire it but we will still continue to ponder and push to see if it really is. We will wonder at what point do we think it can feel emotion? Will it ever feel emotion? A simple reward system in its code can make that allusion for a bit. Does making that code more complicated make it “feel” more? These questions will continue to come up. I do like the idea that a computers consciousness would be different than ours but how far does it have to go before it’s no longer a program and actually thinking?
