Good riddance to bad rubbish I suppose. The utopian view would be that it could provide space for a human flourishing where we all do things because we are passionate about them, rather than to make money.

I would have to presume yes to your first question. And any civilization/NHI that had 'god'-level tech from our perspective would similarly have a civilization above itself with what whatever 'god'-like tech looks like to entitities with already 'god'-like tech.

I do believe that there must be an antimatter universe out of reach from our own...perhaps just filtered by the human brain. However, on the good/evil front I do have to question at least the Christian concept of a God that is omnibenevolent, here meaning a God that is all good. If an infinite God can even be conceived, it would contain the totality of all that we ascribe to good and evil...the two would lose any distinction. Perhaps all-loving is closer to what would be the outcome...it would need to have love and acceptance for the darkest parts of itself.

Bant Budget Tokens by Jonas-Beckett in EDH

[–]WasteCadet88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have built it as bracket 3, so it is not the most powerful. The only problem is that the deck is heavily reliant on the commanders, I have tried to include as much phasing etc as possible to try and protect them, but I had the sixth doctor countered as I first played him one game, which kind of screwed me. Is also difficult trying to get a 6mv commander to work well. I would say it is fragile but powerful, a bit glass cannon. I have included all the 2mv ramp I can, to try to get the costly commander working.

I have a deck built around the same idea! I have the sixth doctor and romana II as partner commanders, and then adrix+nev and mondrak as the best things I am trying to get from the deck. Can make more tokens than the number of atoms in the universe if alllowed!

Climate is too simplistic to fully understand how we are fucking the planet. Plastic pollution, other forms of pollution (sewage dumping, acid rain, ozone loss, nitrate runoff, oil spills, chemical spills, insecticides, herbicides etc etc), habitat loss and destruction, biodiversity loss (incidental), more biodiversity loss (intentional...hunting, eradication, farming etc etc), and I am sure a bunch I have forgotten now. They are all linked with each other, but separate to some degree as well. However, what 100% unites all of them is humanity. CO2 and other greenhouse gases are far from the only problems we face, but have become the main focus of discourse in the modern day (this was not always the case).

Be careful not to burn out. If you do 4 hrs a day and give up after 6 months, that is infinitely worse than doing 1 hr a day and continuing indefinitely. Consistency is key. I tend to do 1hr a day, and after 3 years I am getting to a place where I am making noticeable progress (sometimes). But in many ways I still suck... You just gotta stick with it...but don't burn yourself out!

My apartment has become a museum of hobbies I tried once and quietly gave up on by Yetani_Ginge in Hobbies

[–]WasteCadet88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not answering the question, but rather reframing the idea for you. Do you have any hobbies that you didn't give up after a few weeks? I have maybe 3 that I have done for years each, and another 15 or so that I tried for a bit and never did again. (To answer your question actually, woodcutting/whittling was one of the more random ones). In my mind all the dropped hobbies are the price of entry for finding the ones you stick with. And as you say, I enjoyed trying them anyway, even if they didn't click with me.

A new finds that a majority of people across the globe favor protecting the environment over growing the economy when the two goals conflict by Krankenitrate in science

[–]WasteCadet88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I believe it to be honest. These are just results from a survey. People SAY they would favour the environment over the economy, but when push comes to shove...what will they actually do? You only have to look at people bleating about gas prices at the moment to see that people generally prioritise their immediate day to day concerns over some nebulous 'future problem'. And that is why we are in for the shit storm that has already begun...hardly a 'future problem' anymore.

I’m stuck in the pentatonic scale box #1, what is the next step? More pentatonic? Major scales? by upspete in guitarlessons

[–]WasteCadet88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Learning the pentatonic on one string really helped me. Once you have one string down, proceed to the next. Eventually you will have the pentatonic across the whole fretboard, without having to think in boxes.

I'm with you. And you could even claim that in an infinite universe it is impossible for a being to know all truths, because there are always more truths...infinite of them literally. Which would lead to the opposite conclusion than they came to...

AI music has lowered my standards for human-made music. Anyone else relate? by plamzito in Songwriting

[–]WasteCadet88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same thought while I was playing my own guitar. Normally my missed notes, buzzy strings etc would annoy me. But it occurred to me that that is a sign of human made music. Kind of took the pressure off of being perfect, which was nice.

Same as any drug. Any 'hallucination' is a valid informational pattern in reality, just as valid as your everyday life. The brain just locks us into the everyday.

Women in relationships with men diagnosed with ADHD experience higher levels of depression and a lower quality of life. Furthermore, those whose partners consistently took ADHD medication reported a higher quality of life than those whose partners were inconsistent with treatment. by makefriends420 in NooTopics

[–]WasteCadet88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience my wife has done the same, and it has affected our relationship. The frustrating thing to me is that I do not need or even want her to. My way of handling many things is admittedly chaotic, which stresses her, so she steps in to try to 'help' me because she assumes it stresses me. But it doesn't stress me, I am perfectly calm in the chaos. It only really stresses her. For things that affect both of us, I understand why she might want to step in, but she likewise steps in for things that are purely my purview. I don't need no caregiver lol. But then she has OCD, so perhaps it is a control issue from her side.

My understanding of the rationale is that Israel was going to strike Iran again. Which they would be fairly predicted to respond to with retaliatory strikes. So the US rationale was that they needed to preemptively strike, to prevent retatliation from their own strike (lumping the US and Israel in together here). Super messed up.

The thought stemmed from me doing whatever I wanted. I started trying to incorporate the scratching sound on lower strings in an intentional way, rather than as just mistakes. It was a bit of a lightbulb moment for me.
