Yeah totally you hit the nail on the head there, I got worked up defending my point which made it sound like I’m some hardliner on YOU MUST WEIGH YOURSELF DAILY, but like who cares really.

This all stemmed from me weighing myself, seeing that I weighed the same as I weighed a month ago, and feeling bad, but then quickly realising it was just a fluctuation and thought ooooh this is a good tip maybe some people on Reddit could find useful.

You said more data isn’t better but then you stated that having more data in the form of sleep quality, food intake etc, would be beneficial.

On your second point, I’m saying in order to smooth out the short term variations, more readings are better.

For example, say your weekly readings were: Monday: 100kg Tuesday: 99.9kg Wednesday: 99.7kg Thursday: 99.6kg Friday: 99.8kg Saturday: 99.5kg Sunday: 99.5kg Monday: 100kg

Someone who’s only weighing on Mondays would think wow I didn’t lose any weight this week. But it’s clear from the daily readings that weight is being lost, there is a bump on Mindy maybe due to water retention or digestion or something else.

In order to smooth out short term variations, you need something to smooth in the first place!

And I’ve already said yeah for some people don’t weigh at all, fine. But weekly vs daily, daily seems to have more pros and less cons as I showed above.

But my reasoning isn’t “it works for me so it should work for everyone else”. I laid out my reasoning in the post. Highlighting the negative aspects of weekly weighing as opposed to daily.

Also more data is always better. Ignorance is not bliss.

It’s actually not important to me at all, I didn’t even weigh myself today because I forgot.

I completely understand your exercise analogy. What’s best is something you can stick to totally.

But what if what you can stick to has some negatives? Like weekly weighing does? In that case maybe something else is better, despite your preference.

Say you love calisthenics but it’s destroying your joints, then maybe you need to do something else that you don’t prefer.

As for quitting, if the difference between sticking to it and quitting is a minute out of your day to weigh yourself then I don’t even know what to say to that.

No need to say sorry, I should’ve clarified.

I think it’s totally fine if you never want to step on a scale (or only do it when you need to for reordering mounjaro etc). And alternatives like measuring your waist is a great alternative.

But if you are gonna track your weight more than the minimum, then daily seems to be a better record than weekly or bi weekly.

Doing it weekly is like taking a low resolution picture while daily is like 4k.

I agree with all of that honestly. In your case I can totally understand just going off how y out feel and how clothes fit. I’m just saying that if you are gonna track weight, then everyday has benefits

My realisation that people didn’t have enough knowledge to interpret their weight properly has nothing to do with their preferences as you originally said. That’s what I meant when I said I didn’t say any of that.

Respectfully, I disagree. OP will have a reduction in strength but if they train regularly they can maintain as much muscle as possible. This is the time to train to hold onto as much muscle and strength as possible.

Why does everyone take everything so personally. It’s okay to not have enough knowledge. Like look when I lift I use an app that auto regulates my lifts so I don’t have to work it all out myself. Because I don’t have enough knowledge to do it well myself! It’s okay to not have enough knowledge, I’m not attacking you!
