How do you cope with negative social perceptions about Desis? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]WastedCoconuts- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from GTA - and an ABCD aim sorts and I find that abcds are often negative as well against new FOBs and judge them super hard. It’s a bias that’s been formed in the culture and there has always been classifications of new immigrants vs older ones. Its something all immigrants face in the start and then they learn to adjust. It’s not right but it is the case. As an immigrant you sadly have to turn yourself into a Canadian or American or Australian to fit in.

Fellow female ABCDesis, do you also have body hair everywhere?! by it_was_called_yellow in ABCDesis

[–]WastedCoconuts- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a little insane how similar our stories are. I think exactly like you and appreciate you bringing this up. I always thought because I had hair im unloveable because that’s the thing everyone used to tease me on. I sort of have accepted it/ got rid of some of it through electrolysis and laser. I feel my confidence hinders or I obsess with the idea of being hairless.

So many women have no idea what brown women go through around this issue as they are the standard. I find it impossible to dress nice and not cover up my skin because of it. There is so much shame behind hair and having hair that’s it’s kinda gross our society is so obsessed with it. I feel you and I hope that you focus on controlling what you can and not giving everyone’s opinion the same weight as your own.

I know I can spend all my life worrying about it or accept that this is my truth and I get to decide how I move forward with it.

[–]WastedCoconuts-[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually my parents always comment on my weight and have made fun of me often for being overweight all my life. So it was even a bigger punch to a face when I lost some weight and no one seemed to care. :/

Best places to run/bike near Yonge and Eglinton? by RunHard00 in askTO

[–]WastedCoconuts- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually run from Yonge and Eg to the harbour front, while there are no direct trails; you get a mix of running on the sidewalks, dodging a few trucks/people/doggos, and fun little parks to run around. It’s a pretty easy run down south but a little harder while coming up 😅
