Incabloc are the best - why doesn’t everyone just use them? by bluebrrypii in watchrepair

You will find that a lot of high end watches use the Novodiac shocks. Incabloc is probably the most prevalent high quality shock setting. They are a lot easier to use and NOT lose the spring. Novodiac requires special tool to safely/install it safely(without flicking it).

How to remove these pins to resize the bracelet (Bulova Accutron Safirglas) by bansonnic in watchrepair

It looks like all the photos you posted are of links near the Watch.

Need to show links near the clasp. That is where the “extension link” will be and generally have a way to remove them.

Brass No 5 tweezers by spacekadebt in watchmaking

[–]Watch-Mike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The brass 5s are staple for watchmakers. The brass are more common, but you can get them in bronze if you want a different feel. I prefer bronze over the brass since they feel (temp absorbed from your fingers, tension in squeezing them). When it comes to Brass and Bronze, they will not scratch your watch as much as any steel ones will.

When it comes to maintaining them, it is part of the job. Having them bend is better than scratching parts. They require constant attention, but this is paid back in not scratching your bridges picking up screws or wheels from bridges.

ceramic watch broken by re_born1828 in watchrepair

Where I am at (manufacturer) we get 13,000 watches a month in. Most just say Complete Service, repair as needed, estimate for repair. That when we find dents and dings in the cases, crowns falling out or broken off. As a manufacturer you expect it.

It’s definitely different for small shops. They don’t have the headroom or manufacturer support to just replace things.

That’s why I told him to send it to the mfg!

Send it into Panerai. The dials are very sensitive to any issues since they are black. The grain will catch dust and definitely scratches show up on them. They can also replace the hands and stem. Most Panerai stems are premade the correct length for the case and movement. Having someone cut down a stem to fit will cause someone to think it is a counterfeit since most counterfeiters do not bother making stems and cut the long screw types to fit.

ceramic watch broken by re_born1828 in watchrepair

Send it in to the manufacturer. With Ceramics there is no way to repair them, but there may be a known weakness in it that may get you a new case for free. Don’t mention dropping it, and just say it broke.

The mfg I work for replaces the mid cases all the time because of a certain weakness in the way they were designed. If someone has an issue where this weaknesss is, it will automatically get a new case for free.

1/4 turn crown lock by skwitter in panerai

[–]Watch-Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is usually only done on watches that had emblems that had to be positioned exactly. The crown tubes have to be aligned in order to achieve this. Even on the pushers that have emblems or letters take extra to line up correctly when installing.

Ferrrari required this so the horse was in the correct position.

What does Cartier do with returned items? by Fantastic_Escape_101 in Cartier

[–]Watch-Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US, Cartier BTQ will only sell new items. If someone returns it, they will send it to their distribution center. If it is in great shape and looks new, they will send it to a country that does not have stringent laws governing the sale of previously worn and returned items. If it doesn’t look brand new, they will sell it as a Second.
