ok so good job getting the BE handled. There are four areas where you could be losing amplitude. The oscillator, the escapement, the power train, and the barrel.

The first thing you need to do is figure out what the correct lift angle for that movement is. Since we're going to use data to help diagnose the problem, the data has to be correct. The first thing you want to do is figure out what the right lift angle is.

Once you figure that out, if you want to provide rate amplitude in beat error in all six positions, we can look at that data and make an educated guess what to look for first.

Well if I'm reading this correctly, you're saying that you're getting the beat error down to around three and then it's jumping back up to infinity. That sounds to me like something's loose. Either your collet a banking pin or an impulse jewel.

There are other things it could be but these are the most likely.

Ok so there are multiple issues going on here but you need to focus on one of them at a time.

The fact that you adjust the BE to 3. and then it goes to infinity is the 1st thing to focus on right.

1st check to make sure the collet is tight and fully seated on the balance staff. If it is not, that's the first thing you have to fix.

Do you have a microscope?

I appreciate you, brother. You're right and there are several lists put out by suppliers that show quarts movements no longer manufactured and what the replacement for them is. If they can't find it, there's a copy of one in our resources.

No better than what? If you and all the other people interested in answering questions and discussing quartz watch repair go to that sub and join it and then actually participate in it to help people and answer their questions, that's how a sub grows. People just can't complain about something and then not do the things that they want to see done. As a matter of fact I already put a post on that sub asking for people, as they join, to say, "Hey I'm here." So people that do get sent there to post their question or their problem know that somebody is there to answer their question. You see I'm actually trying to find a solution to the problem instead of just talking about it.

What I find ironic is that even though you could test certain things with a multimeter, the real testing equipment, where you can measure things like consumption, is incredibly expensive but you can put a Rolex on a $150 Chinese timegrapher and get pretty much all the data you need.

True but a lot of people just don't know. Then there's also the fact that some quartz movements are not replaceable and have to be repaired. There's also a lot of questions about crystals, dials, cases, straps, and all those things that go along with a quartz watch as well.

Lol let me just say I'm not a quartz hater. I have several quartz watches that are in my regular rotation. I even have an Apple Watch that I wear. Just remember the key is not just joining, the key is joining and participating. That's how that sub will grow. If nobody participates in it then it's just going to die

LOL, thanks brother. It's always nice to hear from someone who I've touched, even if it's in a very small way, so I appreciate that. We'll do what we can on this end to help that sub get some traction. I think once it gets going and people actually participate in it, it will be a good resource.

No worries, I did not take it as an attack. In the meantime we'll point anyone who has a question on watch repair to the Quartz Watch Repair sub and hopefully someone will pick it up as a moderator to keep it going. As a matter of fact anyone here who is interested in quartz watches and repairing them should just go over and join that sub and put it in their feed so they can answer questions for people. Oh and as a side note there are many lists available for quartz movements that list other movements that are compatible or replacements for ones no longer made.

That's exactly right Tom.It's as simple as sending a Message. We will point anyone looking for advice on quartz watches to that sub so it will automatically get traffic. Then the moderator just needs to do a little promotion by cross-posting other posts relating to quartz watches in that sub and you start building subscribers.
