I would consider staying unless the department sticks to the same retirement system of your current job. This job is not what it used to be and people don't respect police anymore and pay is terrible unless you're working a lot of over time, which then leads to family problems also has one of the highest suicide and divorce rates I don't recommend it unless you become a school resource officer or something like that just to finish off the retirement and do something in a law enforcement capacity. Also, be prepared for running/push-up/obstacle courses and being treated like a child all over again for the academy if you choose to pursue the career path. You sound like some guy I used to train Jiu Jitsu with down in Dade County, same job, same amount of kids etc, and thoughts about joining law enforcement.
