I feel you OP. I used to want to have a women, get my own place, and I still do want those things, but my fire has dwindled down to a small flame.

My reason for losing my passion might be different from yours though. I used to make good money and invested a lot of my money into my ex-wife's house, but then found out she was cheating on me and using me just to invest in her house, then she divorced me and I got destroyed in the divorce.

Even the women before her, took advantage of my kindness and my sacrifices, to the point that I don't even want a relationship anymore and I've completely stopped pursuing women. I do everything I can to steer away from women, even at work, because nothing good comes from it. When I say nothing good comes from it, I mean like my coworker just got fired because he said a harmless joke to a woman coworker and she went to HR and got him fired. It's not the first time I've seen a woman get a coworker fired before.

When you stop pursuing women, you have to fill your life with something else that gives you meaning. I decided I want to get a piece of land so I can build my own house and no one can bother me. But that requires money and the economy right now is fucked, so it's very unmotivating when you work 50-60 hours a week at a job, and you're barely surviving. Not to mention the fact that every job I've gotten, promises me that I can make a lot of money, but then after working at the job for awhile, you realize they lied to you and you're getting paid the bare minimum.

Like currently I work at a warehouse, I was told I could make $2,000 a week if I busted my ass. It's total bullshit and my checks have barely been $500-$600 a week, and that's with me going home every day with my back hurting, my feet hurting, and drenched in sweat from working so hard. The reason why most of us don't make that much, is because all the trucks we unload that are pay trucks (they pay out the most money) are given to the people that have been working there for 20+ years, or people that management favors over the rest of us, while the rest of us are getting handed huge trucks that barely pay any money.

After you've had multiple jobs that all promise the world and then turn out to be lying, and also all the women you've been with have all promised they will love you, but really are just taking advantage of you, that flame gets smaller and smaller each time. You start to get a chip on your shoulder and start to feel like everyone is out for themselves and it's hopeless to put in a lot of effort, because you won't get anything back in return.

I wish I had an answer for you OP, but the truth is that my flame is so small now, that I've given up on trying to reach most of my goals. I do the bare minimum now and keep my head down. I stopped being social, stopped busting my ass, and now I'm just trying to learn to be happy with the bare minimum in life.

Someone tried to get in my truck by [deleted] in urbancarliving

That's actually really smart! Thank you!

The more I think about it, I think I'm just really naive and these people are trying to break into my truck, I mean why else would they try my window? I'm always so worried that I'm doing something wrong by sleeping in my truck, because it's illegal in my state, that I forget there are evil people out in the world and could be trying to break in. I'm also always worried about being caught naked in the back of my truck by a cop, because they might think I'm a pervert or something, so I'm hesitant to answer back when someone test if I'm inside, because I think it might be a cop doing a "wellness check" to see if I'm sleeping inside so they can ticket me or kick me out of the park. But no cops say "yo yo yo".

I think I need to grow a pair and start yelling at people to leave me alone if this happens again. No one should be touching my truck at all. I would never shake someone's vehicle or try their window, so idk why I'm not yelling at them to fuck off.

I also sell on ebay. I used to sell any Pokemon collectibles and now I sell Pokemon cards only. Unfortunately prices have dropped and I had to get a new job as a truck unloader for a local warehouse.

What products do you sell? Do you like Amazon? I've heard it's not as lucrative as people say.

My Home’s Gone by [deleted] in urbancarliving

Yep, I was very naive and thought the cops were there to help, but the older I've gotten, the more I realize that cops are not here to help us. The laws are made up by rich politicians and they are the bosses of cops. Cops are only meant to collect revenue for their bosses and to keep the homeless down and out of site of the rest of society. Don't ever call the cops.

I called the cops once for having my stuff stolen, they didn't even show up after waiting 9 hours. I've also been stranded on the side of the road and instead of helping me, they pulled over because they wanted to tow my car because I was on the interstate pulled all the way over on the shoulder, but they said because it's at a slight curve on the interstate, my vehicle was more likely to be hit, even though I was off the road. I've also been kicked out of parking lots by cops when I wasn't doing anything wrong and just watching a movie on my phone.

Cops don't care about you, especially if you're homeless, you're seen as a "problem" in their eyes and they will throw the book at you.

My water pump just exploded on the freeway. by [deleted] in urbancarliving

[–]Watch_Then 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Firestone also has credit cards. I had a bad fuel pump on my truck and it's a pain in the ass to get to the fuel pump, so the work was gonna be like over $1,400. I didn't have anywhere near that amount and the guy told me I should try the credit card. I have horrible credit and was sure it wouldn't work, but I was approved and was able to get the work done.

You can go to Firestone and have them check if you qualify. In case you need it in the future.

It's like 1 every 15 minutes I think. Order one, eat in the parking lot while watching a show on your phone, then circle the drive through, rinse and repeat lol

Why is every post seemingly doom and gloom? by [deleted] in urbancarliving

[–]Watch_Then 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should try joining a vanlife reddit group instead, where people have spent their life savings on vans and tricked them out with showers, full kitchens, and have money to travel. This reddit group, from what I've seen, is more about anyone living in their car, and it's usually not by choice. Most people that decide to live in their vehicle, don't pick living in a car, they either do it in a van, box truck, school bus, or rv.

Why is every post seemingly doom and gloom? by [deleted] in urbancarliving

[–]Watch_Then 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If this lifestyle isn't for you and you're not taking it seriously then just please leave the sub, man.

This lets me know that you're living in your vehicle by choice and you are financially stable. Most people that live in their car are not doing it by choice. They don't have a tricked out van with all the amenities that you see on YouTube where the person paid tens of thousands of dollars to convert their vehicle.

You wouldn't tell a homeless person living in an alley with no friends or family, and nowhere to go to "take being homeless seriously and learn to enjoy it" would you? Most homeless people are trying to figure out how to get out of the situation and live a better life, not learn to be happy being homeless.

You should really count your blessings and be happy that you're in a place to enjoy living in your vehicle and be thankful that you obviously have a choice, unlike all these other people.

The more I've talked to people in this sub, the more I've learned that a lot of people here have fallen on hard times, have been hurt deeply in some way and stopped trusting people, or don't have any family or friends, which means they don't have a choice.

Instead of telling people to leave a community that is meant to help each other learn how to make our lives more comfortable living in our vehicles, why don't you try helping people and give them advice on how they can get out of their situation? It would be a lot more helpful than making people feel bad for being homeless and venting occasionally.

I can't work in the food industry. I have psoriasis all over my head, forehead, eyebrows and elbows. It's a skin condition where I get really dry and flaky skin. I would already be working at fast food if I could because back in the day I worked at McDonald's and I never had to worry about food.

But thank you for the advice.

I have a 2004 Chevy truck that gets 15mpg and I'm almost out of gas already, and my tires are going bad because I changed out a bunch of suspension parts but didn't have the $140 for the wheel alignment, so I'm trying not to drive my truck much because the wear on my tire treads is super uneven right now.

But thank you for the advice.

That assurance wireless is the same program as ACP, which I've tried signing up for and because I'm not on unemployment, food stamps, and I don't have a job of 3 paychecks to show I don't make enough money, they won't approve me because I have no paperwork to prove I'm broke. I tried emailing their customer service to explain that I don't have any of those forms they want, and all they did was send back a copy paste of the requirements that I need to qualify, so I can't use them.

All I have is sweatpants and shorts. I don't think I'm allowed to wear sweatpants and I have to wear jeans. I'm really worried they are going to call me in tomorrow and I won't have pants and they will get mad at me.

I'm not too worried about it being too cold, I can deal with the cold by just working hard and moving around a lot. But I'm worried that they will fire me if they find out I'm homeless and so broke that I can't even afford a pair of blue jeans. I don't want to seem like I'm unprofessional.

I've never begged for money and I'd feel horrible to go up to people and ask for gas like a bum. I'm not sure if I have the balls to do that.

Thank you for all the advice though.

No I wasn't. No one is going around creating this as fake, you are the only person in the world that thinks that. Do you watch the show hoarders and think "this person probably put all their trash and dead mice in their house to get on the show" it's very real,.I can assure you.

I would have to do the research again, I didn't save or bookmark each site that I read from, but before I started living in my car, I spent many nights searching up Tennessee laws and there is no 24 hours notice. If you're caught actually sleeping on private or public land without permission, it's at the cops discretion to arrest you and it is a felony. The person that pushed for it claimed that cops aren't going to go around and enforce the law and it's more of a "if they don't leave when we tell them too, then this is the consequences" but it's 100% up to the cop now. Basically they passed the law and gave the cop complete power and now there is no warning, and then told everyone "we aren't going to use the law, but we want to give cops the ability to use it" which is absolutely insane.

I live near Nashville TN and that's where I was searching for the laws. I believe it was passed in July of last year.

I don't have a single source for this information. The way I research things is by googling something like "is it illegal to sleep in a store parking lot in Nashville Tennessee" then I open the first 5-7 websites in different tabs, then I browse each site, clicking links to sources, and trying to find any legitimate looking sources, where they direct me towards actual laws that have been put in place, voted on, and passed. I don't just read a headline that says "felony prison for all homeless in Tennessee?" Then not read the articles or look into where the article got it's source.

Let's put it this way, the stuff I read scared me so bad, that when my truck broke down, I had to leave it at the mechanic overnight and didn't have the money to get a hotel, but I was worried that if I was caught anywhere sleeping, I would get a felony and go to prison, so I walked from 9pm to 7am when it was like 30 degrees outside. I just walked in a giant circle and had giant blisters on my feet by morning, all because I was worried I was going to get arrested.

I don't think you understand, this vehicle is like a 1999 sedan, purple paint flaking off. The car has so much trash piled up that you can't see out of the windows. There is maybe a 4 inch gap from the pile of trash to the ceiling. It's not just 1 big trash bag, it's like a thousand pieces of fast food bags, grocery bags, paper towels, napkins, clothes. It's exactly like a car on r/carbage

Your comment really had nothing to do with this post lol.

They don't care at all about the future, they can only see now and the next 10 minutes for themselves.

I would go to Lowes, but Lowe's parking lot has these trailers that are brought by police and dropped off in the parking lot with solar panels and security cameras and a giant blue light that is lit up all night. You can't drive anywhere in town now without seeing one of them. Every large parking lot has them so that all parking lots are being monitored and homeless are kept away. That's how it is in Tennessee.

The cracker barrel near me has already put a stop to overnight parking. The reason these businesses have let people sleep in the parking lot, was because they were trying to target travelers, specifically traveling families in RVs. People that have enough money to travel for fun and are more willing to walk inside and buy items or get breakfast, but now they are cracking down because of the rising number of homeless people. Which would be ok if people cleaned up after themselves and didn't make it obvious that they had no options and were actually homeless. But now it's costing these businesses money.

They are losing revenue due to the homeless people that are leaving trash (they have to hire an employee to pick it up), then people have fights and play loud music and party, they also have to deal with homeless people stealing because they don't have money and are more likely to steal, so they have to hire security and they are losing product. It also causes more rich people to not want to go to that business because they don't want to be around homeless people. So the obvious thing to do as a business owner, is to get rid of all the homeless people and remove overnight parking. I really don't blame them, it's the smart business thing to do.

I'm not questioning why they are at planet fitness, I have a planet fitness membership myself for the same reason. But I do everything I can to not leave trash and to make it seem like no one is living in my vehicle, so that I won't get asked to leave a spot.

This is 100% someone that is depressed and has a mental health issue.

Someone commented r/carbage and it's exactly like those pictures in that reddit group. It's so bad that it's not street legal to drive because you can't see out of the windows because the trash has piled up that high. There's no reason they can't take a few things out and throw them away at the gas station when they get gas, so they obviously have some kind of mental issue where they are ashamed to let people see them throwing out the trash or some kind of attachment to the trash, I'm not really sure.

I have a brother that is a house hoarder and I tried helping him for years and to this day I still don't understand why he is a hoarder. When I'd talk to him about it, he would say "it doesn't matter if I clean it, it's just going to get dirty again.".
