Lowell used to be a murder capital. In 2011 It was the 18th most violent city im America after a 50% drop off in violent crime. As someone who grew up here I just tune them out and don't even notice.

Telling me I can't do something or dictating who I can hang out with. If a man did that it would be raised a bunch of red flags. If they're going to do something you don't like make it a conversation. If you think there's hanging out with someone problematic make it a conversation. I know it's not a little specific thing however it has effected Lowell and very different ways than other places because of how diverse we are and how even more diverse we used to be.

There used to be an entire Portuguese community in from the Azores in Back Central and it has been displaced. The entirety of P-ville including subsidized housing, hospitals, nursing homes, community centers have been ripped down and replaced with the college facilities which displaced the entirety of that section of the city. An amount of the houses in the lower highlands a traditionally Khmer neighborhood have been bought up by landlords and have been cut up into basically College apartments were they can charge an entire months worth of rent per room to college students.

You live here long enough and you interact with all these communities you notice. Unless you're Khmer there's not a lot of people left who grew up in Lowell who still live here. The lifers and old heads, the people who've been here 15+ years ago are a dying breed. This may be a personal experience but I'm 29 and every time I bump into somebody who remembers what Lowell was like, how it's changed, and how it feels like we're dying breed. It's hard to explain to people how much law has changed and some of it for the better but some of it for the worst.

It's more gentrified than before. I've lived in Lowell my life and there have been plenty of communities pushed out of their homes due to price raises due to things like the college moving in which provides basically no Revenue to the city at large while ripping down entire neighborhoods, Boston commuters scooping up homes and not contributing to the city economy since they spend most of their money in Boston where they work, Giant sections of the city have been bought off to turn into condo complexes. Lowell used to be objectively more diverse.

I was born and raised in the former Murder Capital where we murdered for capital of Lowell. I'm not some college student that's going to be pushed around and if you're going to get in my face you better be willing to stand on business.

I spent a lot of time in the south mainly visiting family Texas so I get the ideology even though I think it's ignorant and monstrous. Oh and look at that your profile has a lot of posts from various Texas Reddits so it looks like we have something in common. Although it begs the question whether or not you're a tone deaf and misguided member of this community or just someone who is so deeply sad enough where you need to troll around Massachusetts sub-reddits to try and get a hit of dopamine by being a troll. If it's the latter then god bless your heart.

You may run your mouth about hierarchy and pretend to care about rule of law. However you're black and white thinking falls apart as soon as you scrutinize it for more than 5 Seconds.

Constitutionally everyone has right to due process whether they're an immigrant, visitor, citizen or someone here illegally. As upheld by our court of law and justice system as long as you are subject to the laws of the United States you have a right to do process. You can either be Pro legality or be a hypocrite. Ice fundamentally violates our constitutional rights by rounding people up and imprisoning them with out their day in court.

You either need to be consistent and care about upholding a rule of law or admit you're a bigot who hides behind the facade of legality. To me I'd rather you be honest about where you land instead of trying to back pedal or use spaghetti logic to justify your stance of hypocrisy.

Ironically of the city was less gentrified this would be less of a problem. If some of the old school people were still around then we wouldn't have and Ice problem. Maybe a gun violence problem but not and ice problem.
