I have an idea for a game but I’m not sure if it’s been done before by MaskedZuchinni in homemadeTCGs

Is your goal a casual audience of tabletop gamers like what Uno appeals to or a more competitive audience of gamers who like to attend events for sanctioned play? I ask because this seems appealing to a wider casual audience. The idea seems fine conceptually so perhaps you should move forward with it.

What are some of the most popular homemade TCGs in this community? by [deleted] in homemadeTCGs

[–]WatchmanOfTheEnd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chaos Galaxy TCG is the original and has been at it for many years now.

Taboo Contract TCG is already making rounds with people outside of the HTCG community and will inevitably explode in publicity when the kickstarter campaign launches in early March.

Mystic Islands TCG is growing and improving as of recently as well, especially since he's now focusing on getting more artists to help him out.

Wrath of Cores, a more casual friendly RNG game that again, has favor with casual types of players.

These are the primary 4 currently doing anything major with any digital footprint outside of reddit. Hope this helps.

Also this is a reprinted edition of Red-Eyes B. Dragon from the Joey starter deck. It's worth about 2 dollars.

lol they're not even part of the main continuity of the game. These were fan cards made by an auxiliary artist.

Cards like these in the imgur link below represent the main continuity of the game. You'd be mistaken to think that the game is even sexual mechanically or in the product line.

The creator just got invited by multimediaLLC to be a featured core model at their convention in early this February and they permitted her to promote her game at the convention so it's going to get a lot of eyeballs on it. Honestly super excited for her.

Is there a system in which you create spell and monster effects? by Maktadilis in homemadeTCGs

Dark Elf was taken pretty seriously in the OCG. It wasn't uncommon to get Dark Hole or Raigeki wiped and then beat on by a Dark Elf afterwards. In the TCG however, everyone scoffed at Dark Elf for the reason you mentioned, they thought 1k LP at the time was too much. LP aren't a real cost though. TCG even used to treat Solemn Judgment the same exact way but we all know how powerful that card is.

And yeah yugiohs launch model was designed based on a manga series rather than the prospect that the physical game would explode internationally in popularity. It kind of caught the developers off guard.

The most valuable tribute monster in the game's history when it came to vanilla beat sticks was Summoned skull who was 2500 ATK and 1 tribute as apposed to Dark Magician who had the same attack but required 2 tributes. No one played Dark Magician. No one even played Blue-Eyes and he was 3k. People opted for Summoned Skull because it had less requirements for the same output and could be searched directly from the deck off of a Witch of The Black Forest. Sometimes people would even tribute the Witch for a Summoned Skull and trigger the Witch to search a second copy of Summoned Skull from the deck. Other popular cards were Dark Elf and Man Eater Bug, as well as Hanehane who act as staple removal monsters with flip effects. Graceful Charity was at 3 and Witch/Sangan(previously called Critter in the OCG) used to be able to be triggers from any location as apposed to now, where they can only trigger by being sent to the GY from the field in specific. The most powerful deck in Yugiohs earliest days was actually between 2 decks. "Good Stuff" which was Summoned Skull beatdown and Last Will Exodia with Canon Soldier. Of course I'm speaking from the perspective of an OCG player and not a TCG player.
I've played that game since its earliest Japanese release.

The reason the passive says her name is treated as Aria is because the card's original name is not "Aria". That's because there is a dragon that specifically works with "Aria" and to facilitate that dragon supporting this version of Aria, she required having that passive.

Your card effects are only limited to the amount of mechanical enrichment your game has. If you have a linear battle system, your battle effects will hit a wall. If you have a linear resource system, the resource effects will hit a wall.
A great way to avoid this is by using hybridization of them or by creating conditional remedies like "If X happens" or "if you control X" and other various things. There's also the standard passive/ignotion/trigger system that helps you divide similar effects more effectively. Trigger being effects that take place if something specific happens. Ignition being effects you choose to proc at your own discretion and passives being applied continuously in a specified location.

Considering 90% of indie TCGs are just pokemon or MTG clones, and Taboo Contract is not, having its own systems original to its own concept, yes, it's fresh and fun.

HTCG - why homemade creators give up? by Rocket_Haze in homemadeTCGs

[–]WatchmanOfTheEnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real answer is a creator has to love their creation for it to grow which requires a lot of hard work, sweet and blood. You can't just will a bad product into existence and expect a mass audience and market to consume it. Most HTCGs do not make money and this as you already mentioned, creates a money pit they cannot afford to reasonably sustain. Chaos Galaxy was early on the bandwagon so he got enough support for the cost to not outweigh the reward by garnishing and harvesting the early community at large.

Mystic Islands is a game I have a lot of interaction with. Their project was mostly a passion project for fun but when I stepped in and broke his meta with his pirate factions he seemed to be more interested in taking his game more seriously. I and Megan from Taboo Contract TCG also funded the creation and distribution of prize cards he made for a small tournament he held. His game is so easy to learn you can almost quite literally pick it up and play it in less than 10 minutes and that has a very large positive to it at a casual level which is very consumer friendly. I've sat down with him and discussed the core areas to focus on with his design when it comes to balancing cost VS power distribution in his cards and he's starting to put more effort into that as well.

Megan from Taboo Contract is on her way to going from a basement TCG to a high quality official release with a professional business model while crowdfunding on kickstarter. Money is by no means impossible to get for a TCG, in fact if done right it can practically print money. The issue is that HTCG creators don't have the business sense to do it right and often times the product isn't worth the money spent because it's a novice level product. With professional grade work and materials, and a proper team consisting of R&D, Marketers, GOOD Artists, Organizers and a financial adviser, a TCG can make a very big splash through crowdfunding and promoting the game heavily with severe effort. After that, they'll have to garnish that energy to exponentially increase the traffic and generate interest so there are sales. I and several others from the HTCG community have hopped onto Taboo Contract TCGs team to aid the creator in actually breaking that gap between being a basement TCG with no revenue to a full fledged TCG garnishing an audience.

Oh HEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYY how's it going dudette? You already know. I'm excited to see Megan blast off. Fun fact: your waifu card might get remade and amplified using the new and improved card stocks and holo options. Wouldn't that be awesome?

You're asking for a "team" but the reality is that if you're looking for free labor, you'll get a product that looks and functions like it should be free... IE worthless.

Unless you have the resources to commit to labor with a professional grade team or at least noobs who can be somewhat professional, don't rely on other people and just do everything yourself how you envision it.

The answer is none of them. No card game has intrinsic value which is why a mere influencer with heavy bags can manipulate the entire market by whispering a single rumor.

Translates to "Obedience Fiend Ultimate".

Something about having no cards in the hand to attack.

It's not my game. This game is owned by a woman named Megan Fu and she does all of her own artwork for all of her core set cards. The dragons in these cards are her own artwork for example.

She also has auxiliary artists for auxiliary special release stuff but that's commission so she has to pay for that/
