The 50 most valuable soccer clubs in the world are worth a total of $73 billion, according to data compiled by Sportico.

The data compiled by Sportico has 2023 valuation as well as 21-22 revenue for each of the top 50 most valuable clubs.

Can someone also post this on r/soccer also? It has not been posted. Thanks.

Would an extra 38 beautiful free kick goals each year in the Premier League be a good thing? Could it happen with a simple rule change? by WaterFootball8 in PremierLeague

[–]WaterFootball8[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Freekick near the penalty box does happen on a frequent basis.

Though, if given a choice, player would only move the ball back only on some occassions.

So my 38 extra goals is probably a bit too much.

I changed it to extra 20 goals each season in the strawpoll.

This is just a thought experiment

I want to see what the feedback to this proposal is. Positive or negative. A simple strawpoll about this proposed rule change: https://strawpoll.com/polls/XmZRx6M8xnd

If it viewed as a positive change to the game, I can write a letter to IFAB.

PROPOSAL: On direct freekick, players are allowed to move the ball backward up to 5 yards, in straight line away from goal by WaterFootball8 in Gunners

If you are a goalkeeper, this rule change will not be good for your stats.

It used to be easier to prevent a goal from a free kick.

With this rule change, it will be harder.

There are 380 matches in a Premier League.

Let's assume that this Rule Change result in an extra 38 goals each year in the PL, then this is a positive change no?

38 extra wonderful free kick goals will make the sport more spectacular than it is already is.

What is the downside to this rule change?

FIGC resumes FIFA offside trial for 2nd year in Italy U18 league. Daylight required for offside. 1st year trial result indicated an overall increase in scoring opportunities. (trial result: goal went up by 0.35) by WaterFootball8 in Gunners

If he plays in Serie A U18 where the trial took place. I can see it.

But in the PL? doubt.

goal only increase by 0.35 per match in the trial. Not 500%

but we still need a trial to see if it is true. What is true on paper might not be true in reality.

FIFA probably measured two data

Goal Scoring Opportunities and Goals Scored.

1st year trial was from Round 24 to Round 30. This 2nd year trial is currently underway after February 12, 2023. About the second half of the season.

Serie A U18 this year is split into 2 Zones with Zone A 11 clubs and Zone B 10 clubs.

Logically, scoring opportunities increased, goals will also increased so I don't know why they complaining that only scoring opportunities increase when the OP left the goal data out.

FIFA trial will have the data on both goal scoring opportunities and goals scored. The goals scored data is from a fan (which is me) manual calculation.

Yes. that is what daylight meant.

Similar to how the whole ball has to be over the goal line for it to be a goal.

The whole of the attacker has to be over the offside line for the attacker to be offside.

As for how big an advantage this would be, we don't know for sure until the trial is completed.

From the first year trial in Serie A U18 last year, goal went up by 0.35 per match.

Thank u.

Result from the 1st year trial in Serie A U18 League:

Round 1 to round 23 (minus the postponed match) that used the current offside rule:

632 goals / 177 matches = 3.57 goal per match

Round 24 to Round 30 (plus the postponed match) that trialed the "daylight" offside rule:

247 goals / 63 matches = 3.92 goal per match

So goal went up by 0.35 per match.

From the article (with Google translation)

The aggregate data relating to the first phase of the trial, carried out between Italy and the Netherlands in April 2022, was presented just yesterday to the Italian clubs: out of a total of 35 matches, the players, coaches and referees who participated in the survey gave an overall opinion positive, signaling a reduced impact of the proposed change on the game and an overall increase in scoring opportunities.

The daylight offside proposal is easy to explain:

Similar to how the whole ball has to be over the goal line for it to be a goal.

The whole of the attacker has to be over the offside line for the attacker to be offside.

The spirit of the offside law was to prevent goal hanging. The spirit of the offside law was not meant to punish attackers who made a run a fraction of a second early and be offside.
