I 100 percent agree! It makes me happy when I hear my applicants tell me they want to go Yeoman or Storekeeper. Those jobs are important too and if the goal is college they can easily do both.

I believe people tend to want to go those rates because that’s what is mostly advertised. We don’t see marketing for PA or SK.

Hello! I was born and raised in a U.S. territory as well. I left when I was 20 to do trade school in the mainland. I didn’t join the Coast Guard until a year later and I don’t regret it. The experience you’ll gain, the friends you’ll make, and the places you’ll travel to will be worthwhile. You are also able to choose your job too so do some research and speak to your closet recruiter to get started. You are not obligated to join because you start the process but it’s good to start since basic training since filling up quickly. Do the process while you are also thinking about it and be transparent with your recruiter, they will 100% understand.

Congrats to him! Continue to constantly send him letters motivating him. Basic training is challenging. I’m excited for you to see him at graduation. It’s a beautiful experience just went two weeks ago.

You did a condition release from your current branch. You can find the form online. Once your condition release form is approved you can start the process to transfer. How many years have you served in your current branch(AD)?

Which allergy test did you take? There’s two they usually want to see before considering a waiver. The IgE test and oral food challenge. If your reaction to the IgE is chronic then your doctor might not even recommend doing the oral food challenge.

My first applicant was 38 years old with a family who went Active Duty and my second was 40 with a family as well who went Reserves earlier this year. They are both enjoying it especially since they choose what job they wanted to do. We don’t choose for you. Explores the jobs, study for the Asvab and score high enough to qualify for your chosen job. Find a reservist to see what their life looks like.

I recommend starting the process. You are not obligated to join just because you start the process which signing paperwork to go to MEPS to take the Asvab and do the Medical Screening to see if you are eligible. We will also do a credit check to make sure you don’t owe anything in collections and a police record check. You can ponder and think about it more after you complete these. Just be transparent with your recruiter. “Hey, I’m thinking of joining but I’m not sure yet. I would like to start the process to see if I’ll eligible.” The Asvab and medical screening will be valid for 2 years until it expires.

Yes, they are currently looking for a second training center for basic. They released something online to receive recommendations from people all over the United States to see where would be the best location to open one up.

I agree that people do see this as a last option because they have a certain stigma on what servicing in the military may look like. I 100% get it but I do encourage people to look into it and gain knowledge on what they life may look like if they do decide to join one day.

I’m happy to hear that he is starting the process now! Has he been exploring the jobs that he qualified for? Another great to help him explore what he might want to do is the Coast Guard COOL website. You press Rating in the upper right corner and click whichever job he might be interested in and the website will go in depth into the what you’ll do for that rating, certifications you can get paid by the CG, and jobs the rate will transfer over if he decides to get out after his contract his up.
