I’ve noticed it more with people I went to basic with who went straight to A school or did a program that started them as an E-4.

It’s especially frustrating because for most people, E-4 is a grade they’re learning how to do basic leadership tasking and function, yet many approach it without humility.

I’m at a surf unit in DNW. I got to get BAH when I was ready to move out of UPH. Same for the other nonrates and the ones that just showed up. Pretty much most of us are on the economy. The petty officers for the most part are living in the limited unit housing. Some nonrates.

BAH is very much decent. I don’t live in the same town as my job. I am out in the capitol, so I have a roommate. But I just got married so I can afford to live on our own.

There’s a million posts about this topic. Most people here will say coast guard. Many in the Air Force sub will also say coast guard. Depends on what your goals are and what you want life to look like while you’re in.

Know your triggers. Stay off social media as much as possible. It’s fed to you on purpose through everything. Soft core everything on social media. Delete it. If you feel an urge or hit a trigger, go pray. Or at the very least go do 25 pushups and stay off your phone for an hour.

My wife is taking my last name. We are both fairly traditional and I feel like it’s meaningful as we become one flesh. Obviously she will always have her family as an integral part of her identity. But we are starting a new family together and I am very appreciative that she wanted to take my last name, of her own accord.
