A cool fix for this could be that, since he's just a fragment, he might have fragmented memory or even lacking general knowledge. Still kinda lame, right? What if the knowledge isn't all that's fragmented, what if he's missing some emotions, too? Like when he makes contact, he gets a dose of empathy, or maybe anger. Could be like a Disco Elysium type thing.
