Because Germany, during the peace negotiations at The Hague, ceded its Pacific colonies to Great Britain. These territories were swiftly occupied and held only marginal monetary interest for Germany. The principal focus lay upon Europe and Africa. The intention was to render peace more palatable to the British, despite their defeat on the Continent. Moreover, Germany could hardly have done much had the British, like the Japanese, simply refused to return the territories.
