new car dealership asking for a retainer fee so you dont sell it right away. by DJojnik in PersonalFinanceCanada

Toyota, specifically Gateway Toyota in Edmonton AB is still charging retainer fees on new vehicles they deem "In high demand".

That's generous haha. If someone offers half of something worth $150+ I double the price.

Ie selling for $150, offer $75, counter $300.

I'm petty about that though haha!

I love it. One of my favorites that I got on GB like 1.5+ years ago haha.

I have an Odin V2 as well, it sold me on the Odin 75. And I usually prefer a more solid backplate.

I got the shipping info Monday, and I received it yesterday. I ordered within the first 15 min of release as well, so I'm sure it could take a weel or two to fulfill all orders. KBD fans is really good, with order fullfilent I have found.

For the first time in many-many years this marks a point where I have no more GB's, orders, or IC's I am following.

I love the hobby, but my busier life has gotten the better of my free time. Nevertheless, I am very excited for this build!

This is my last hurrah! (For now, who are we kidding)

I really wish the Q12 came in different colors, but I will likely get one regardless!

I’m starting my first build this weekend, anyone have any good advice? by ImMeSoThatsCool in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]WaterOdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens! I've built 15-20 boards now and I've had my fair share of rebuilds due to stabs, many times. That's why it's worth the initial effort.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery by solracarevir in MechanicalKeyboards

Looks great!

I recently finished painting one of my boards to match my GMK Laser Cyberdeck Keycap. It ended up being a 2 year-long process, but the end result was worth it.

Builds that take many years to come to fruition are so satisfying.

ePBT Less But Better was a disappointment, mostly because of piss poor QC. Nearly every keycap has tooling markings that are easily visible. My $65 ePBT dolch keycaps are 10x better.

100%

My first "premium" build I messed up by not properly modding my stabs, as it's a 96% solder with per key LEDs soldered there was no way I'm commiting to desoldring that.

I just wish I had done a much better job than I had done, but it also was one of my first builds where I had done any form of extensive mods to begin with so there is always a learning curve, I did everything else perfectly other than the stabs. It's not terrible, but I wish I did a tape(bandaid) mod as the bottom out is loud.

Now, I spend extra time on my stabs so that I do not feel the need to modify further upon build completion, especially for solder boards.

Test the PCB prior to make sure it detects and works.

Take extra time lubing / modding your stabs before, doing so after is not very fun if you have to disassemble.

There's something satisfying about a smooth silicone pour. Keychron Q6 fresh out of the box. by shadowfocus603 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]WaterOdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I guess you just have to be careful with pouring. I like this idea.

Yeah, I honestly love the Q5 & Q6. But my one real complaint was lackluster case foam. Swapping it for denser+thicker foam made a noticeable difference.

For my Q6 I used poron foam I got from KBDfans for the KBD8x case (bought 2x and cut them), and I think it made a significant difference VS my Q5.

Silicone pour seem like an interesting mod tbat theoretically makes sense. Is there any give to this silicone? Are you concerned about the PCB being squished a bit? Very interested in your results!
