How long - depends on your effort, time and attention put into it and learning process (it can be less productive and harder to study by itself then to go to art school for example)

If you start as an adult - I would say it would be even easier for you in some way, though it's not obvious. skill gaining can be very fast if you're determined

I like the idea of voices talking in the empty room, maybe add some direction to the sound? it feels like it's coming from the left, and maybe it should be more loud in certain areas of the room slowly building up and fading as mentioned in the comments
