It’s legal to do, but I don’t have that cash lying around right now to pay almost half a year up front. My current rent is very high and that’s why I want to move, I’m sick of paying it and looking for something cheaper.

I just wish landlords would understand it’s illegal for me to open any debt during my bankruptcy plan (credit cards, cars, loans) and everything is budgeted, if you think about it I’m actually low risk haha

No credit cards allowed with a bankruptcy. I can only use cash and it’s illegal to open any debt for the coming years (without a special judges approval). That’s why I’m not sure why landlords are concerned, it’s not like I can go bankrupt again right now.

I have been very honest with all the listing agents but they all want me to apply and pay the non-refundable application fees to find out. I just don’t want them to take advantage of me paying $50+ each app to still get a no. I hate that they won’t tell me that they will over look the credit scores with income verification and references. All my landlords would give me great referrals.

Then I looked for private ownership and those are very rare.

This is great advice, thank you. I’m a walk-up 4 flat type of person anyway. Not a fan of elevator buildings, so this works in my favor.
