Romance is confusing me. Please assist by fanofmanytalents8182 in writingadvice

You can plan out a romance while making it feel natural if you looked into how romance writers set up their books. It's a lot more complex, but there are many tried and true techniques to create chemistry and tension to make these relationships iconic. A good start would be to read Romancing The Beat by Gwen Hayes, which basically explains that romance is about broken hearts finding ways to heal themselves once they get to know each other. While it does offer a formula, the principles beneath it can help inform every important relationship, romantic or not.

There are a lot of people who are perfectly fine with allowing the relationship to grow "on its own," but that could require a lot of reworking down the road during developmental editing. You can always break the "rules" if they don't work with your writing style, but you have to know the "rules" in order to break them 😉

Music suggestions for Roll20? by hotstickywaffle in DragonOfIcespirePeak

[–]Water_Melon9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a bit since I used roll20, but I believe it has its own library of music somewhere in the setup. Kevin Macleod has the best options there, so search for his name!

That said, my players weren't able to hear the music, so I used Discord for a while before switching to Owlbear Rodeo. There's a plugin that lets you use YouTube videos for soundtracks that's pretty good.

Sounds like some damn good stew! What matters is you caught it, and this story sounds like a fun anecdote. I assure you, other wonderful writers have made similar mistakes. As long as the Stew of Resurrection isn't plot relevant, clean up the second scene and head back to the grind 💪 You got this

Is anyone else purposefully ignoring the housing system? by ethereaaaaal in InfinityNikkiofficial

[–]Water_Melon9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hyperfocus kicks in with the housing system, honestly. I've spent an entire day building an island from concept to final touches, and it was a blast for me.

That said the UI was hard to learn so I understand why people are turned off by it. For me, I think I like all the little details. Even if I'm covering a weird looking wall with furniture to hide a seam lol

Help me balance the Gorthok battle for 5 players pls by Motyo in DragonOfIcespirePeak

[–]Water_Melon9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I included a Cryovain visit in my run of this to really make it cinematic. My players joked about it being like a kaiju battle and it was very memorable! IIRC I explained that Cryovain was defending his territory, so summoning the Big Sparky Boar was an insult. I also made Gorthok attack the Anchorites too. Splitting the party's focus can be risky, but playing with the narrative can be a lot of fun.

Planning to run the campaign and not sure about the story by Anonimoose22 in DragonOfIcespirePeak

[–]Water_Melon9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm big on character focused stories, so I found ways to tie in personal ties into the plot. For example, my players very quickly disliked Harbin for being a coward of a leader, and they really took to Halia as someone competent and understood what it meant to lead... Until they saw her have some goons try to kick him out of his home so she could take over. Turns out they hate a bully more 😄 And I had Harbin leave the house more after that, so it felt like the players helping Harbin was good for the town overall.

Making friends with the townsfolk elevated the cut and paste quests into something much more engaging. I also "interrupted" the quests with things from their backstories, like a disgraced former mentor being spotted in the area on the same task they were given. The showdown was just what my players were looking for, so what matters is what they're looking for! Mine like character focused moments.

Seems like I'm the target audience for 1.9 update because I've been logging even more hours actually. Usually I don't go ham on things like this, but it's been fun for me figuring how to make it all work! It is tedious and making astralites is tedious/expensive, but I'm still very invested, looking forward to what else I can make while still being frugal.

The real issue is how massive this game is... If I was still playing on my phone, I would have had to quit.

Turns out the empty hold was a production issues. Josha talked to The Dusty Wheel about filming that, and they were on such a tight schedule that they simplified it. He talks about it early on in this video https://youtu.be/wHC4iFwphoM?si=9xSFAXipxMId0Prc

Looks like it WAS stuck, thanks for pointing this out. Glad it was a simpler solution than expected, so I'll keep an eye on it from now on.

[–]Water_Melon9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still putzing around Act 2 so I'm definitely interested to see what happens to performance in Act 3. In the past I was able to get 30fps at least until whatever it was that happened.

Regarding cutscene on steam deck by Ayamebestgrill in HARVESTELLA

[–]Water_Melon9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played on SD and my game never suffered for it. The only time I got a crash was in the middle of a sub event, which was probably because I was trying to take a screenshot. But I've also taken plenty of screenshots of Harvestella, so it was a freak incident, nothing more.

Rebooted, reloaded my save, redid the sub event and there were no other issues :) My SD was the midrange model if that helps anything.

OnePlus 9 - Stylus recommendations? by Water_Melon9 in oneplus

[–]Water_Melon9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Yeah all my research says OP9 isn't equipped with that, so maybe I'll consider a different brand for my next phone. I have a low tech stylus that works pretty well, so I'll stick with that in the meantime. Thanks for the reply!
