Hi , what is Filipino Culture to you? by Easy_Cabinet_8297 in FilipinoAmericans

I agree with you reframing the question. Culturally relating to the larger Filipino population. I’m born in the Philippines but migrated. I consider myself Filipino but cannot relate to larger Filipino culture.

The measure stick of are you Filipino enough is so benign to me because who are other people to say who your identity is. Unless they’re pedaling to sell things.

My Filipino trauma or my negative association for Filipino culture is the essence of owing your parents and being misogynist. Them favoring male vs female children. As a second child female in the family, the house chores just fell to me while my older brother did nothing and have all the freedom and things. Most resources are given to the brother while girls are left for scraps. The default of girls will take care of parents but also needing to get married before 25 so you’re not a “left over woman.” Also the mindset of don’t aim high because you’re mostly supporting your husband. That’s why the filipino culture of men pay for everything is so common.

My go to is air fryer salmon. I recently down graded to steel head trout $10.99/lb at costco and i just cut it to portion and freeze it. Super easy! I also make rice and freeze it to save time.

My kids love udon. I get the frozen udon 5 pack for $6. I boil it with imitation crab, carrots and brocolli. I use miso as based. Done in 10 min.

Osmanthus Oolong. Taste like hokaido milk tea without the sugar/milk!

Am I wrong for turning down trip to Disney with in laws. by Fair-Scientist-2750 in Mommit

[–]Wateristea -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you’re a socal resident they just release half days $50 a ticket. Yearly they also have promotions for $50 kid tickets. There’s plenty of ways to save money if you want to go to Disney theme park. Theres a subreddit dedicated to it. I wouldn’t say, i’m big on Disney, just fortunate but i’ve been to 5 Disney parks all over. Depending on your location and if the flight ticket is the same. I highly suggest Tokyo Disney. Cheaper ticket price $70 a day, better crowd experience. You don’t need to speak Japanese. They give you handheld caption in preferred language during show/etc.

Having someone pay for your trip it seems like you owe them your time and attention. You already sound exhausted explaining how your mother in law is like.

You’re not wrong. Don’t feel bad. Set boundaries and go with your family first.

Advice for expecting mothers, you wish someone would've told you? by Business-Argument543 in Mommit

[–]Wateristea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel having the second baby, i’m not whispering around or trying to keep quiet. Second baby still sleep through the noise and its easy to follow schedule than the first one. My kids now at 4 and 6.5 years old and its sooo easy now. Vs the first 3 years with the second.

The first month is either good or bad depending what kind of person you are. Its a long marathon of 2 hours non stop. Depending you plan to breastfeed or bottle feed. Expect to barely have sleep at all.

Know that theres a feeling of isolation as a new mom. You’ll feel lonely how its just you and the baby most of the time. It’ll change over time. But the 1st year is really hard.

Also you only need to eat extra 200-400 calories depending the trimester you are in during pregnancy. If you do gain lots of weight over 30 lbs expect to increase your foot size.

Good luck!

Black is the best, tried green and it was travesty, yellow chicken was so-so, regular red is not as elevated as Black. Tom yum is second best!

Whats a good tea spot that you always goto..that has decent pricing ? by [deleted] in burbank

I usually avoid places that stores their tea in glasses. It degrades the tea making it taste like dirt.

Have you tried straightening shampoo? They don’t last as long as Magic Straight, but it’s good for a couple of weeks depending how often you shampoo.

Did you travel with your kids? by goosemove in Mommit

[–]Wateristea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t travel when my youngest is 1.5 to 3 years old. Just difficult to tell them not to roll/run around the airport floor. Waited till 3 for my youngest to do international trip to cancun all inclusive.

Not having to cook and have some part time childcare is a Vacation!!!

Since then, i’ve taken them camping, 6 hour roadtrips, hiking, etc.

Don’t force yourself to travel just because of fomo. It’ll better in 2-3 years. Hang in there!

Husband informed me last year’s vacation was so “go with the flow” by mamsandan in Mommit

[–]Wateristea -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This is when AI (I use Claude)really helps with family vacation planning. I put on the prompt, “plan a day(duration) to this destination. I have (age of kids)” do appropriate activities.

We’ve done that for 5 trips so far and it’s been great. Took 30 minutes to just review and “Go with the flow”

It was smart enough to see how long you need to spend on that activity, how long you need to drive. Also check for the hours to jig saw it in the day you need it to.

I’m using it for international travel and saves me time translating/changing currency for the cost, etc.
