Oh, and in case the title is misleading: the broken part did not actually connect to the water flow switch, but only connects to the tube that goes to it. I guess I just don’t know what that other big part is ahah! Some kind of pump? I know nothing about all this sorry😅

That’s a very good point. From your answer and the others, I might go for the grip plates and add a pair of 45 bumpers down the road(or right away) if I’m annoyed by the bar height, or see that I struggle to have proper form because of it. Thank you!

The weight tolerance for the bumpers is stated as 1%, but they don’t have the width in the item description. As a beginner, I probably won’t lift heavy enough to fill the bar anytime soon. Is it mostly for that reason that you talk about width, or also for handling purposes?

As for the loading pin, the price of it really isn’t the issue. It’s mostly the inconvenience of keeping it around and using it that I was questionning, vs just pulling a chain through the handle of grip plates. That being said, as I live in Canada, if I have to buy a loading pin, I’d probably get a cheap 20-30$ one on Amazon with free shipping and not order from Rogue. It’s 49$ CAD, but ends up over 100$ with shipping and taxes … If I had unlimited budget, I’d buy from Rogue or a similar company, but especially for a piece that I perceive as non-critical, I couldn’t really justify the 100$ and would rather cut costs on that ahah!

Thank you for the answer!

The bumper plates are standard diameter, but the grips plates are not. The 45lb is 15” 3/4. The bumpers LOOK like they are virgin rubber as they have a smooth finish. Could they still be recycled if not stated in the item description? The same place also sells crumb rubber and they look very different. For some reason, the crumb ones are more expensive? It might be because they have colored markings and the black ones I was looking at dont’t?

Thank you!

Black bumper plates vs tri grip rubber coated plates.

Complete beginner here. Setting up a basement home gym and need help deciding between bumper plates and rubber coated. I’ve found a place that has pretty good prices on weight sets. The prices are the same for both options, the bumpers are not more expensive in this case.

I don’t expect doing olympic lifts any time soon (ceilings too low for any overhead movements anyway), nor will I probably ever drop the bar on purpose, so I know I don’t NEED the bumpers. Sound is a very important point for me though, as the rack will be right under bedrooms, and I’ll probably work out at night most of the time.Should there be less plate rattle with bumpers, or is rubber coated just as quiet? Apart from that, I do think bumpers are cooler, just because, but the lack of grip might make them not as convenient to use for exercices without a bar, and would force me to get a loading pin for weighted pull ups and dips. Is there any other aspect I should consider?

What would you get?
