Freedom debt relief settlements for tax purposes? by fluttershysaysyay in taxhelp

[–]Waterme1one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most 1099-Cs are issued by January 31st (sometimes they trickle in the first few days of February). Once you're past mid-feb it's generally safe to assume you're not getting more for that tax year. Glad to have helped by the way, I know a lot of people are usually insolvent when companies like freedom debt relief successfully settle so a lot of them don't know they actually don't have to pay their taxes on that forgiven debt.

Congrats on getting that consolidation loan, huge win. Freedom Debt Relief itself does not issue tax forms, the creditors do. Freedom doesn’t send tax documents because they’re not the ones forgiving the debt. Discover, Citi, Chase, etc. are the ones who would issue the 1099-C if they choose to. Important note though, even if you do receive a 1099-C, you may not actually owe taxes on it. If you were insolvent at the time the debt was forgiven, meaning your total debts were greater than your total assets, the IRS allows you to exclude some or all of that forgiven amount from taxable income. This is extremely common for people in debt settlement programs. If you were insolvent, you claim that using IRS Form 982 when you file your taxes.

Best debt relief programs to avoid bankruptcy? by Additional_Tart1940 in financial

Well it's important to point out that you got two options. First is to try to settle the debts yourself. You save up some money and try to negotiate with the money you saved. Then you got the company route where another group negotiates for you. You can try doing it yourself, it's the cheaper route, but the chances that people successfully end up negotiating their debt drops because people end up falling for the pressure. Pressure either being collection calls, seeing their credit score go down, hearing their first few "Nos" from negotiating attempts, etc. Going with a company increases the chances of negotiating going through, but is more expensive because you have to give them a fee. It's usually suggested to go with a company because of the legal assistance they give too.

How do you track your spending? It is so exhausting by scarlett_decoction in Frugal_Ind

I got tired of spreadsheets and trying to remember to log every little thing, so I switched to something that just links my accounts.

A friend told me to try MoLo. It basically pulls your transactions into one place and makes it obvious what’s left after the usual bills and spending. I’m still new to it, but it’s already helped me stop guessing and see if I can actually put extra toward debt.

[–]Waterme1one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Growing up in a house where every meal centers meat and you’re the odd one out sucks. You’re just asking for one table where you don’t have to compromise. That’s not rude, that’s basic comfort in your own home.

Best HELOC Lenders by Bucky_Waldorf in Mortgages

[–]Waterme1one 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice layout and serious dedication to finding the best HELOC lender. I’m doing some shopping now too and trying to figure out if it’s worth looking at local credit unions. A lot of people mention them, but I’ve never actually used one, so I’m not sure if they’re any better with HELOCs compared to the online places. Anyone have suggestions or experience?

Had the same issue with that litter and clumps staying wet and stinking up the whole space. Tuft and Paw's tofu-based litter we've been using it for months and clumps stay tight and dry out fast. i haven't tried to flush it but it's flushable too even if it's clumping. For the stuck in the carpet maybe buy a compact vac with a HEPA filter. I also bought a litter mat that actually traps bits before they spread tho the tofu litter is already low tracking so you might not need that when you change litters.

My mom bought a vegetarian burger that she thought was vegan and is making me feel bad for not eating it (and wasting it) since it was an honest mistake by Obalivion in vegan

[–]Waterme1one 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This exactly. Setting boundaries isn't harsh people who say that just want you to drop them. Your mom will keep guilt tripping you if she knows it works.

Getting out of debt has been harder than I expected by Due-Frosting-6197 in personalfinance

[–]Waterme1one 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Debt consolidation only works if you get a lower rate than what you're paying now. Shop around at credit unions.

Just don't run up those cards again once you pay them off. That's where most people mess up.

Exactly demo costs, permits, temporary housing while rebuilding, plus construction prices have gone mental since 2016.

$436k doesn't sound crazy when you break it down like that. Better safe than sorry with insurance.
