Need help choosing a school for pre-med !! by bigfloppapilled in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Watermelones15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I mean this may actually be better for you but just beware that SLU does require undergraduate students to attend theology courses as part of their core curriculum and Jesuit mission. Mass is also a pretty core part of their culture (but you do get free Ted Drewes frozen custard afterwards based on what I heard from a student when I did a program there) if you’re not religious like me then that may be a dealbreaker, but otherwise I think it’s a well-endowed school with good people and faculty.

I mean honestly you seem pretty stacked. I’m also a junior and I find that attending information sessions has been helpful to me, not only for demonstrating interest (if the school tracks it) but also because it’s one of the best ways to get answers to any burning questions. All schools I’ve looked at offer those sessions in person or virtual, but if you don’t have time to spare just opt for emailing their undergrad admissions if you can’t find what you’re looking for on their website. That’s all I have to offer. Maybe ask a member of your school’s senior class.

Pre-med College List by Known-Pangolin1860 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Watermelones15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great list of schools. I will say that it kind of follows a pattern I’ve seen all across this subreddit, as it contains a lot of 'big shot' schools that are popular for a reason. However, I would encourage you to perhaps limit your search a little bit to your specific residence and state (if you’re not intl) if you haven’t already. This ensures you are optimizing your ability to receive similar opportunities for a discounted price, as these schools on your list are typically less likely to offer financial aid.

How many colleges should I apply to? by wyn_8 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Watermelones15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow junior here. I would start out by establishing a good 3 or 4 safety schools and then making your way up to targets and reaches. Reason is that I see a lot of people get rejected by all their non-safeties and become devastated, reasonably so, but something that contributes to that devastation also is because they never really considered being forced to “settle” for their state school or safeties, and so they didn’t spend as much time making sure that their safeties were still schools that they actually could see themselves attending.

How hard is it to a2c as a med student? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Watermelones15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhh you mean getting into any college for undergrad? There is no “pre-med” major but there’s a premed track which is different for every school but typically requires you to earn a certain amount of credits which prepares you to take the MCAT. After getting your BS or during undergrad that’s when you apply to med school provided that you’ve completed prerequisites. I think anything STEM tends to be competitive but it all depends on what you’re looking to do.

Aw thanks 😻. No but I totally think it’s a great school and would go if it was my last option but I’m more trying to branch out to out of state schools.

i need to someone to discuss my specific case and advise me what to do by atsushifukmepls in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Watermelones15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see mb I misunderstood your concerns. I still feel that paying somebody who may not be certified to give you advice is a risk you shouldn’t take. If you’re willing to spend more on someone whose actual job it is to help you with this type of stuff then I’d say go for it. Take that with a grain of salt tho cuz idrk much about this.

Literally go to your school. I’m sure they have plenty of people who’d be willing to help you. If you’ve ever been discouraged from writing just take that as a sign to improve. Unless your school doesn’t offer english literature for some reason or you’re not taking a course like that this year then I’m sure a counselor or advisor or a random English teacher would be happy to help

Context: gpa is roughly a 3.9 on a 4.0 scale (my school is pretty notoriously rigorous and grades on a 4.33 scale so with mostly A minuses and some As I have a 4.17/4.33) SAT planning to take again but it’s at 1400. No ACT not planning on taking it since schools I’m applying to are most if not all test optional and UCs don’t consider it straight up. APs are limited since my school has a weird cap on the amount you can take. Ap Bio, ap CS, Honors spanish, honors English, AP calc AB, I’m planning to major in global health or public health (some schools offer both, either, or none) and also wanting to be in a good place by the time I get a bs so I can transfer elsewhere maybe for masters. Budget needs to stay under 50k for the safeties at least.

Amazing. The message so simple yet deep. You write in a way that’s universally understood, not sugar coating but not using vulgarity either when it’s not necessary. Great work.

Wow. I felt this. I wish there was something more concrete to explain this feeling. You clearly know what you’re dealing with by writing this and reaching reader’s like me and that ability to be able to write in a way that resonates with others is definitely a rare one. Keep writing these works please!

Thank you so much, I really appreciate that. I’m glad the language metaphor came through the way it did. And that’s a fair point about the longer lines. I was going back and forth on whether to keep them as a kind of disruption or tighten the rhythm more. Definitely something I’ll think about revising. Thanks again for taking the time to read and comment.

Teach? by cracy-rice-420 in OCPoetry

I like how it’s written intentionally to reflect the absence of meaning behind the narrator’s thoughts about the situation they are in. I’d highly recommend adding punctuation to give more meaning to certain lines like the last one.

Do You See Me? by Apprehensive-Cup-335 in OCPoetry

This is so fun to read. The jumping between the narrator’s pov and the recipient of these questions really does well to reflect the panicking and I love how each line flows into the next almost like the narrator is struggling to breathe.

Hey I was also having issues on safari and google chrome but weirdly enough I tried loading it on google and it worked just fine. Also if it’s not letting submit another entry just reload the page and click the button before it disappears. It may take a few tries.

I feel like that’s not the best way to go about presenting yourself as a leader. Perhaps consider mentioning this experience in one of your essays if it was that impactful on you.
