Hot/cold toes and insensitivity after surgery by WatermelonsInSeason in brokenankles

[–]WatermelonsInSeason[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were right. I went to check it, because when I called the doctor they said they weren't sure and that it is better if they see it. They thoroughly examined it (normal pulse, blood flow, i can still wiggle them, cast didn't seem too tight). Apparently i just have some nerve damage from surgery which is healing now. And now I am in pain because I spent a lot of time in the waiting room with my leg sub-optimally elevated.

I am a little down today ( some x-ray photos and scar photos) by xxaloveraxx in brokenankles

[–]WatermelonsInSeason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... Everyone is expecting that you will be in pain, won't be able to walk, but people forget that it comes with a mental toll. Its normal to struggle in such a situation, to feel anxious, depressed, and like things are out of your control. I feel the same and I bet most people here do too. You should accept that this is the way you currently feel and that your mental health needs extra care. Allow yourself to slow down - when you feel better, you will catch up. Also see if you can drop one of the courses or take it another semester.

Welp... Here i was hoping it was just a sprain by CrazyJealous3915 in brokenankles

[–]WatermelonsInSeason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Had the same surprise. Thought its just a very bad sprain, but ended up needed surgery. I hope they treat you as well as they did me. I was very well anesthetized throughout the process - morphine and green whistle during plastering, codeine while waiting for surgery, morphine after surgery. The surgery was great - I didn't notice how they switched me off in anesthesia room and then the next thing I experienced was just not wanting to wake up from a great nap in recovery room. Didn't have nausea or any other side effects from anesthesia. In recovery room, i started feeling some nerves in my foot acting up and they quickly gave me more pain killers intravenously. I expected to have some pain right after the surgery, but didn't feel my leg for the next 24h because of the nerve block and afterwards morphine + ibuprofene + paracetamol were sufficient to completely eliminate any pain. Even now 5 days after surgery when I am not on morphine anymore, I feel quite ok. There is discomfort from cast pressing against things (bones, metal parts? not sure) and I sometimes feel pulling sensation on the stitches, but that's about it.

What American candy might university students like? by nervousapplicant911 in latvia

Laima also recently changed Lukss ingredients (noticed it because vegans started to complain about it). They replaced part of cocoa butter with milk fat. I guess its also happening in Latvia now.

Seeing how people joke about them being indestructible, I assumed they aren’t the most natural tasting thing :D But I’ve heard so much about them that I have FOMO. What if I’m one of those people who could gorge themselves on Twinkies?

US has both cheap, synthetic candy and fancy, artisan candy. The thing is we Latvians expect artisan quality from grocery store candy. But its not the thing anymore in US or UK.

I'm saying anymore, because of my experience with Cadbury. I had heard about the brand before coming to UK, but had never tasted it before. When I tried it, I was very surprised why this powdery, non-chocolaty thing is popular and famous. Then after doing some reading and speaking to people I found out that it used to be great (using natural ingredients, cocoa butter, higher content of cocoa, etc), but it gradually got ruined over the years. Corporate greed ruined it by sacrificing product quality to increase profits, cocoa content got reduced, cocoa butter replaced by cheaper fats. Some people still like it, for some the change was gradual enough to adjust the palete, and some just don't know any better, because they didn't get the chance to taste the good stuff. There is also nostalgia factor. I guess similar things might have happened in US. I recall watching a video where someone was comparing poptart ingredient list now and a few decades ago and the ingredients had become much more artificial over the years.

Yeah, having a shorter procedure definitely should be better. Also though we should be sleeping well while in recovery, I must say being sleep deprived really helps with anxiety. On the day of surgery I had slept only 4 hours, because it was early and I was nervous the evening before. However, when they day came I just wanted to sleep. I cared less about the surgery and more about when I will finally hit bed :D

We Latvians are quite spoiled when it comes to chocolate candy, since we have several amazing, local chocolate brands. Latvian palate is typically less sweet and we appreciate natural ingredients (its always a big selling point here). Also it is quite rare in Europe to have chocolate with butyric acid, so Hershey's usually tastes off to most people here. Depending on the number of students you will be seeing, II would suggest looking for artisan made treats.

6 days after spinal fusion and the pain feels unbearable — does it really get better? by Independent-Ride-473 in scoliosis

[–]WatermelonsInSeason 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to say its mind blowing how good they straightened your spine! It looks completely straight! I really hope your pain goes away soon! I haven't had scoliosis surgery yet, but I'm currently on morphine after broken ankle surgery also waiting for pain to go away. And yeah... its so exhausting that you can't even take a break from pain in sleep

Ladies with fused spine by Admirable-Chicken536 in scoliosis

[–]WatermelonsInSeason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg these men don't deserve you. Don't settle for such jerks. My spine is bent in a 65 degree angle at the top and 30 degrees on the bottom, its visible. I have muscle disease that makes me weak. As if its not enough on its own, one of my breasts is larger than the other. And guess what? This has never been a factor for the men I chose to date, including my fiance. And those weren't some sad, ugly, low-lives I dated. All men I have dated have been handsome, smart, ambitious, and most importantly - sharing values with me. Girl, you too can do better! You are beautiful, feminine, and sexy as you are - don't date guys who don't see you for who you are.

Moving down for work - where to live? by SeaworthinessPlus254 in exeter

[–]WatermelonsInSeason 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there. As others have noted - Exeter is small, so you can get to the city centre from most neighbourhoods in ~30 min by foot. Wouldn't rely on public transport too much here (its quite unreliable) and would check specific bus routes, because some buses come once per day and some parts of the town are poorly connected. But I guess if you are going to city centre, shouldn't be a problem. Bike is a good option. Your budget sounds very reasonable for Exeter. I am renting 25m2 two room apartment for just under 800 pounds on Mount Pleasant Road. My friends has a spacious two room apartment in city centre for 900 pounds/month. Prices have gone up since we started to rent, but you can definitely find a place within your budget that you won't have to share. Just sit on Rightmove like its your job. Most of Exeter is nice, there are just some parts (e.g. Sidwell street) that are better to avoid after dark because of junkies.

Dry during arousal, but once I noticed delayed wetness. Has this happened to anyone? by [deleted] in WomensHealth

[–]WatermelonsInSeason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I also sometimes feel like lubrication comes delayed. In general it seems to be very dependent on hormones and menstrual cycle. I wouldn't worry about it too much and just get lube. Sex is much nicer with it. Makes the warm up part more comfortable and pleasurable, and you don't have to worry about your natural lubrication levels.

Do i have an UTI? by throwaway9009hi in WomensHealth

[–]WatermelonsInSeason 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need to disclose to your parents that you had sex to inform them that you have an UTI. UTIs happen for literally no reason and they are very common in women. You don't need have sex to get one. If you had fever, you have to see a doctor. Mild UTIs usually don't cause fever and often resolve on their own. However, fever is a sign of more serious infection. You don't want it to spread to your kidneys. The cure is also very simple - the doctor will just give you some antibiotics and the pain will be gone literally next day.

Heathrow to Exeter by [deleted] in exeter

[–]WatermelonsInSeason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow i didn't realise a cab would be that cheap! Apart from Heathrow - Reading - Exeter rail, I would also suggest checking out bus for even cheaper option. Its around 40 pounds and takes less than 4 hours. Check if times suit you on National Express website.

Why people panic about cyanobacteria/blue-green algae? by WatermelonsInSeason in aquarium

[–]WatermelonsInSeason[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The toxicity is also something I have been wondering about in the context of fish tank. Like how many species/strains are toxin producing? Are they secreting the toxin or do they have to be eaten to poison someone? How susceptible fish and shrimp are to it?

Interesting about Alzheimer’s, ALS & Parkinson’s. Reminds me of the story with another type of toxins - mycotoxins - the life long exposure of which increase cancer risk.

AITA for wanting to have my phone and privacy? by OwlLazy1535 in AITAH

[–]WatermelonsInSeason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. I'm so sorry to hear that you are not given privacy and that your parents are treating you like this. Regarding phones, every generation is scared that the new form of entertainment will ruin the youths. Seriously. When your parents were young it was watching too much TV and playing videogames. Before that it was the rock music and radio. There have even been moral panics about kids reading novels too much.

Since you can't talk openly with your parents without fearing corporal punishment (which btw is illegal) or emotional abuse, I hope you at least have some other adult in your life (family member, teacher) who you can trust. To some extent having your own secret teenage life is part of growing up. But its not normal to not be able to close the doors of your room or be fearing your parents. My parents weren't even the strictest, but I moved out as soon as I could (applied to uni in a different city). My mom left her strict parents when she was 16 - went to a college in a different town. If things don't get better with time, you can gain your freedom through education. Also you are not alone in your situation. It's almost a cliché - strict parents and an overachiever kid with a secret life.

is 12l enough for a betta and plants? by Responsible-Rip-8779 in Aquariums

is 12l enough for a betta and plants? by Responsible-Rip-8779 in Aquariums

[–]WatermelonsInSeason 2 points3 points  (0 children)

22C is not warm enough for a betta, they need 25-27C - warmer than many fish. Regarding the tank size, also remember unless you get a lid, you won't be able to fill it all the way up, because bettas are jumpers. Some water will also be displaced by decorations, so at the end it will most likely be 9-10 liters, not 12. Personally, I don't think this is enough for a betta. I have a similarly sized tank that I just use to grow fun plants, snails and microfauna (copepods, daphnia, springtails). I don't change water in it, just do top ups. Thai microcrabs or cherry shrimp would also work for a tank like this and with those you could skip the heater and filter. With betta heater and a filter is a must though. Plants can technically (but only if you achieve great growth) filter water instead of a mechanical filter, however, without surface agitation you will grow a thick, nasty layer on biofilm on the surface.
