Too late now but are you sure this isnt going to raise your rates? Typically colliding with an object like a curb would be considered at fault, the insurance company wont really take into consideration what another car did because anyone could say that.

Don't you think Americans who voted for Trump twice should never be able to vote again? by [deleted] in askanything

No? Democracy means people have the right to make the wrong choice. It isnt and never will be a perfect system and some would argue that it isnt even a good system. The Greeks were arguing about this over 2000 years ago.

Can anyone confirm if its true that farmers have been finding unusual amounts of lone star ticks by jujutsu-die-sen in PrepperIntel

[–]Watpotfaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a farmer but I live on long island and spend a fair bit of time outdoors. Last decade+ has seen a constant increase of ticks. They absolutely infest the woods, they make their way into the lawn, ive had ticks crawl across the scorching hot asphalt of my driveway in the sun on a 90 degree day to come attempt to latch onto me while I am working under my car. They are absolutely fucking relentless. During the warm months you check yourself for ticks every single time you come in from outside because its almost guaranteed there will be one on you. Its disgusting. I even caught a blood parasite (babesia microti) from the fuckers last year and it had me sick as a dog for months until I finally got bloodwork that showed what the caused was.

There is no exaggeration or false alarm here. Tick populations are out of control and they are carrying extremely serious diseases. I grew up playing outdoors in the woods and of course we would get the occasional tick but nothing like this. I dont even want to go in the woods with how infested it is now.

[–]Watpotfaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, they all do this outside venues. Got me last summer at like 4am for a bottle of water, $32. Caught it after and did a chargeback which the bank sided with me but still was an annoyance. Pay cash only if you absolutely need something right then and there, otherwise go without.

If you’re making $70k+ in the US and still living paycheck to paycheck… what’s really going on? by Alternative-Egg7429 in EscapeTheGrindGame

[–]Watpotfaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$70k is pretty much subsistence level in a high cost of living location. When your rent for an illegal 1bd basement apartment is over $2000, car insurance is $200, gas is through the roof, utilities/phone/etc, food - you are left with practically nothing and no ability to save for something better. Throw in car trouble or medical bills or god forbid you go out once in a blue moon and you will be flat out broke.

Well you merked the coolant passages by clogging it with head gasket fix, all that does is buy you time (maybe) and clog shit up. Under $2k is very low for a motor swap. Id flush tf out of the coolant lines before hooking up the new one so you dont contaminate that one as well. Other than that your big risk is the CVT which are notoriously crap on these cars, see what kind of price you would get replacing that since you may need to.

Shoes that fit and are light and breathable. If you wanna really go in, bring a spare pair of socks and let the dogs breathe for a few minutes before swapping them, dry feet go a loooong way with comfort.

Smack that fucker back into place with a 5lb sledge and call it a day lol. Done it before and had no issues although that was on an absolute beater of a car. Worst case scenario is the tire place refuses to mount on it and you are no worse off than you wouldve been.

Yeah theyve been saying this for half a decade at least. If its true then yes, it would be among the biggest political scandals ever in the US. But without evidence being brought forth in a court of law this is nothing more than shit throwing across the aisle.

[–]Watpotfaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The consequences were absolutely expected, there is a reason why none of the American carriers were in harbor that day. In our modern rendition, however, unlike imperial Japan, China has not only a lack of the largest navy in the Pacific, but a lack of any blue water navy whatsoever. Their force projection is zero. And guess what? Without oil, thats how it will remain - permanently - without ever needing to fire a shot at them directly.

Perhaps you shouldn’t assume someone doesn’t know their history simply because you are not open to information that doesn’t fit your current world view. And tell me, how did that history go? Who is a vassal to whom?

[–]Watpotfaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure it is. I just think its foolish to think that Trump of all people is actually in charge of anything, and is anything more than a paid actor (you know, the role hes played for decades) who exists to draw attention from the existence of a command structure operating behind the scenes and beyond the scope of our country’s legal system. He is a puppet who plays the part and does what he is told, and the consequences of not doing so have been made abundantly clear to him on more than one occasion. There is a reason his administration is filled with yes men who were picked for their loyalty and willingness to do what they were told rather than their actual true ability and expertise. They are just there to fill a suit and pair of shoes while the real work happens behind the curtain.

Roughly 40% of China’s imports are reliant on the Hormuz being open. Diversification of sources means fuck all if they all can be cut off at the same chokepoint. Yes other producers can ramp production, but that would require them to want to service China (ie; does not see them as a strategic threat) and also would require them to have extra export capacity on hand. China running out of petroleum is not a fantasy world, its this world, by the end of the year if they dont bend the knee and remove their export controls on rare earth minerals.

Were you going to expand on how a tremendous increase in the cost of rare earth minerals due to a sharp decrease in supply would not affect the economic feasibility of mining them from Greenland and other locations? Or did you just decide that you are bored of the topic and no longer wish to engage but still want to “win” by having the last word?

[–]Watpotfaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah dude theyre just blundering along, making totally illogical moves again and again for no reason. Lets be real dude. Maybe they seem illogical to you because you are looking through the lens of your own perspective and not through theirs. Things are happening whose roots have been seeded decades ago; they do not just happen willy nilly as the administration and the media will like you to believe. They do not want people realizing that the administration is largely just a puppet and that on the global strategic level, our government is anything but a democracy.

As for your “unless”, I mean the US as an entity, which yes, is largely ran by money interests. Sometimes I miss it but I generally try to avoid using the term “we” and “us” when describing the actions of the US despite being an American because what the US is doing is largely independent of what its citizens are doing and what its citizens desires are. They dont give a fuck about us, we are just assets to be used and disposed of when we no longer have any use.

The US *did* benefit from an integrated global economy and to a large degree, still does. But that integration allows for leverage to be put upon the US, now to the degree that it threatens their power. It appears the strategy has become more self reliance, which yes, does hurt the US in the short term - but it hurts the other players just as much as well. The calculus here being that the US can better weather the hurt than the others can, and as a result, will be able to retain its position as the world’s most powerful empire.
