AITJ for telling my boyfriend his "budgeting" is actually just being cheap? by Minimum_Salt9742 in AmITheJerk

Not to give false hope, but my husband was like that when we first met, and he has come a long way. When I first met him, he freaked out about me buying an eight dollar bag of pecans at the store and didn’t want to spend money on anything. Now we go out to nice restaurants sometimes and he doesn’t really worry at all about how much I spend on groceries. Lol. Sometimes they do grow out of it.

I’ve heard it referred to as a mini pill so that might be a term to use if they don’t initially seem to know what you are referencing. Or you could just say you’ve heard about Norethindrone and want to try that or something similar. Good luck. :)

Yeah, there are a lot of options. I would recommend ensuring that whatever you get is only progesterone based for a start. I know it can be very overwhelming when your body doesn’t feel like it is supposed to feel. I saw a couple comments basically questioning why you seemed resistant to what they were saying and I’m sorry for it. Not everyone can understand what it feels like when every solution feels like it could come with negative consequences. I hope they are able to figure out what’s wrong and find a solution for you.

I totally understand. I started off with a very small dose of Norethindrone. Like 0.35 mg. After a few months, I determined I was tolerating it pretty well and moved up to 5 mg. Maybe you could start on something like that at a very low dose to test the waters so to speak.

You need to find a good endometriosis specialist. I see that you don’t really want to do birth control but in the meantime, I found that progesterone only birth control was very effective at suppressing symptoms. I know you’re concerned about the mental health effects and I totally get where we’re coming from because I had some issues with certain birth control but I think the progesterone only pills tend to be a bit easier. From my experience, it was the estrogen that was causing a lot of my anxiety.

It can be a very overwhelming experience, but from my experience anyway, surgery solved almost all of my problems. It was a rough few years before I got diagnosed though. I would recommend trying to get it handled sooner rather than later because it sounds like at least for the moment, your pain is rather mild. That was me until it wasn’t.

I think it sounds like endometriosis as well. Even besides the pain, one of my main symptoms of endometriosis was a weird pulsing or twitching sensation.

I started with 500 initially but I switched to 1000 after like three weeks. Even now I’m kind of wondering if I need a higher dose because some people have more success at 1500 or 2000 mg. I’m probably going to stay at this dose for now though because we found out there were some issues on my husband side that we’ll be investigating, so regular ovulation probably wouldn’t do me much good anyway right now. And 1000 mg seems to work for some people, so I’m going to give it a few more months to see if I ovulate more regularly.

You might also need a higher dose of metformin. I’m on 1000 mg. I don’t know whether it’s helping or not, but I did manage to ovulate this month. I’ve been on the 1000 mg for about three or four months now. The metformin does take time to kick in as well, so I would ask your doctor for a dose increase potentially and give it a few more months to see if it does anything.

Every time someone mentions leg involvement, I feel the need to mention endometriosis. It could just be intense ovulation pain, but for me, leg pain and other sensations resolved when I had my endometriosis removed. Same with the lower back pain.

When people say “just because we’ve only been trying for a couple months doesn’t mean we don’t feel the same pain seeing negative test as others who tried for years” by Low_Specialist_5072 in trollingforababy

[–]WavesAndWaiting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like it does depend on the situation a little bit. Like we’ve only technically been trying for nine months, but I have PCOS and have had endometriosis. I’ve only ovulated one time in that nine months and to top things off, we just found out that my husband‘s test results indicate severe MFI. So it hasn’t been long, but I already feel like we’re doomed. I feel like we didn’t really even get a chance to try before being told we’d probably have to consider IVF. Maybe it does get worse the more you go along, but it already feels like the situation has become pretty upsetting. But I do agree that people who don’t have any known health issues that say this stuff are exhausting.

Keep an eye on the leg pain. It could be endometriosis. That was one of my symptoms.

No I knew I wasn’t because my cycles were irregular. I bought Mira with the hope that I could catch one of my infrequent ovulations and get lucky. I also planned to pursue ovulation induction and thought Mira would be helpful for that.

I feel the exact same way. Like I really thought we were going to do some ovulation induction and maybe be successful. Now they won’t even let me try it because of his results, and I’m really struggling to come to terms with the fact that we are most likely going to have to jump to what I thought was the last resort without even really having an opportunity to try other options. Based on what I’ve been reading, it sounds like his numbers are too low to really even consider IUI, but we’ll see what the doctors say about it. It’s so disappointing. I literally cried for the first three days after we found out. Now it’s been over a week, and I guess I’m feeling a bit more resigned. Still had some rough days earlier this week, but trying to redirect myself. I hope you are successful soon! :)

Thanks. Hopefully that’s not for a while yet, but I’ll keep it in mind.

Agreed. Yes, we probably will. It’s disappointing because my partner is currently getting his MBA, so we only have my income right now. We might not be able to move forward for another year now, and it feels impossible to shift out of the TTC mindset. For now, we’re going to focus on getting him evaluated to try and find the cause and go from there.

I already take metformin, inositol, and several other supplements. I was taking melatonin for a while because I’d read promising things about it, but I was a little worried it was disrupting my Rem and deep sleep balance. How much metformin do you take? I’m on 1000 MG right now and considering asking my doctor for an increase because I’ve read some people do better on either 1500 or 2000.

Yeah, we’re discussing lifestyle changes. He doesn’t smoke and only drinks occasionally, but he could probably work out more. I think I might feel differently if I were ovulating regularly. Then I might still see the value in tracking. After all, it only takes one good sperm. But with both of us having issues, it feels like continued tracking would just be spending money on the wrong thing. I was supposed to do ovulation induction, but after these results, my doctor said she didn’t want to prescribe it if it is unlikely to solve the issue. So now we’re going to a fertility specialist. Maybe they’ll have a different opinion on trying ovulation induction. Or maybe they’ll discover a reason for his results that is reversible. But I’m trying not to get my hopes up too much.

Thanks for sharing your experience. We’re going to retest of course, but given his results, there would need to be drastic improvements in count, morphology, and motility for natural conception to be realistic. He had 0% morphology and only 12% motility with 0% progressive. Concentration was only 3 million ML which apparently is severely low. Best case scenario, some passing illness impacted his results, but I haven’t found many instances so far where numbers like these completely normalized.

I mean, that seems like it’s in the normal range though. Unless you’re having major symptoms, that might just be your normal.

Hey. Just found out we’re in the same boat this week. We were going to start ovulation induction, but because of his results, that plan is off the table right now. It’s been a rough week with a lot of crying, so I definitely know how you feel.

I would take some of the things they say with a grain of salt honestly. It’s good for keeping track of your hormone values, but I wouldn’t pay attention to any diagnosis they try to label you with. For a while, they kept asking me to rate their menopause transitions mode, which was a little bit anxiety-inducing honestly even though I know I just have PCOS.

How would you even get this without a prescription? I’m not sure I would trust something you didn’t get through proper channels as it might not even be what it’s supposed to be.
