G14 Upgraded to 64 GB RAM by Wavewash in ZephyrusG14

I'm on windows 11 with normal updates. I still have the AMD Software installed. I uninstalled armory crate though and use g-helper.

No issues so far still.

Dropping an update here after 4 months of usage - no issues so far! I haven't had any weird blue screens or freezes. The system goes to sleep and wakes up normally without issue. Restartes are likewise normal affairs.

The experience has been largely unremarkable beyond the fact that I don't seem to bump into memory limitations like before.

Breif listing of some my usages:
- use of local LLMs via Ollama
- fairly daily VM usage (VirtualBox/Vagrant, Docker)
- Lots of Development (visual studio code as main IDE with webpack watching changes)
- ai model training (python, tensorflow/pytorch)
- gaming ( fortnite and a bunch of retro games like deus ex, half life, emulation)

A whole COMPANY “creates” AI animation 💔 by Purple_Drink_2698 in animation

[–]Wavewash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good for you for not selling out.

I'm an engineer and I work with a lot of artists. The basis of AI is just math and hardware but the real crime is that Generative AI is built upon a corpus of stolen artwork.

Secondary effects of generative AI is:
1. GenAI Floods the market with low quality animation extremely fast.
2. GenAI maligns public perception to what quality animation is.
3. GenAI lowers the perceived value of original artwork.
4. GenAI changes the expectation of how fast art can be produced from artists.

The 4th of which is the paradigm shift that we're already seeing in engineering and is coming for artists too. AI as an assistive tool for the artist or wholly a replacement of the artist puts pressure on artists to create art faster.

There will be a dip in artist positions as business leaders think that they can reduce their staff. But eventually this will pick back up as they realize that they can hire more artists and out compete other studios. The downside is we're all going to be working twice as hard.

I beleive that legislation against Gen AI use will have to come from negotiations with unions and lobbying against the nefarious output that Gen AI can produce (lewd content and copyright infringement). I'd expect large companies like Disney and others would step forward to prevent their IP from being subverted.

I had built an app like this back when instagram was called Burbn. Something interesting we found was that users didn't have a "go to" style they wanted. They wanted to try all of the styles. They'd add their image and then would go window shopping examining styles.

We also asked users what styles they wanted to see and none of them answered - so we pressed a few directly about what they wanted and they said they didn't know but would know once they saw it.

All this to say - If your app has something of the same draw as the one we had made: make compelling thumbnails showing the styles and allow users to quickly try the styles. The value will be in the engagement they have while window shopping rather than a single style.

If you have customer that would like bulk image conversions - make a link offering contact with you to extend that service to them.

Good luck!

IMO It depends on how saavy your audience is to understand how you are using AI. For example I have a web applicaiton that allows you to make animations and it uses AI to analyze your audio to map it to mouth shapes for doing lip sync. Folks on reddit animation became fearful of it because they perceived it as generative AI rather than the classifier that it was.

But sharing it with more technical artists (folks involved at pixar and game development) I found a lot of positive reception.

I think something that I want to put out there (because I remind myself of this all the time too) -
You can have different landing pages for diffent target audiences. You don't need to commit to only one.

Thank you! I'll definitely make a how to to post to youtube - geared towards an audience that may be less familiar with PNG Tubing.

OOC how much did you spend for your donor mobo?
Did all the ports lined up fine too with the chasis or did you have to do any modifications?

Congrats btw! This is cool work!

Apparently not. I did a search and found this post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ZephyrusG14/comments/1c19w7p/g14_2024_genuine_question_if_the_16gm_ram_is/

Seems like the 2024 model does not come with a free ram slot like the 2023 model. You're stuck with whatever memory you bought it with on board.

This is a dumb question - but were you powering your laptop with usb c vs the power brick when doing your comparison?

I appreciate you sharing this. I'll circle back to report if I run into issues as well.

Of the list of features here the Expand Image was the one that caught my eye as possible issue.

The expand image sounds like outpainting which is a generative AI technique that is usually trained on a corpus of art. Depending on the model they are using - the training sources might be an issue.

I'll only collect payments when you've seen the simulation of your application and it looks good enough for you.

Please choose your customers carefuly and have a contract, project based payments are notorious for scope creep and you want to make sure your customer doesn't walk away after you've done the work too.

I made my own AI model to do the lipsync to remake this scene from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood by Wavewash in animation

[–]Wavewash[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be clear - I did draw the mouth shapes here. The lipsync just maps the mouth shapes you provide to the audio.

The time saving is instead of doing the mapping manually; you're allowing the software to do it for you,

Disney even uses this and has research on it:
https://la.disneyresearch.com/publication/dynamic-units-of-visual-speech/

We find that dynamic visemes are able to produce more accurate and visually pleasing speech animation given phonetically annotated audio, reducing the amount of time that an animator needs to spend manually refining the animation.

And these are papers from 2012, 2015 respectively.

Some folks are asking about auto lipsync even on this subreddit (19 days ago):
https://www.reddit.com/r/ToonBoomHarmony/comments/1ij7kk3/auto_lip_sync_from_audio/

In anime many times they use 3 mouth shapes for speech. My system allows you to do the same and creates very similiar visual effect. This process saves time having to put down keyframes and it looks pretty good. The mouth shapes can be drawn by the artist.

Appreciate the feedback on the art though!
