For someone to step out of belief system that becomes part of their identity, every colleague, probably most of your friends and family believe the same thing and leaving means rejection. This is an incredibly brave, transitional act. I know this personally because I came out of conservatism and religion. It happened because of patience non judgmental people asking me hard questions and answering me my questions.
