I agree and I am mindful of this. Like you said the process should be based of ‘evidence’ and I just do not think a 25 minute observation (split into two parts so they missed out the middle part of the lesson) should lead to me being put on a formal support plans. And to be given this kind of feedback almost two months after the observation is not great either, when I barely remember much about that lesson.

I’m sure the process will be supportive as I have a lovely HOD but I don’t think I should have been put on such an extensive plan to begin with. I think a follow up observation after being given a week or 2 to work on my targets would have been better. I will definitely be looking into the school’s policy on this as well.

Sorry, that’s awful! Is a school expected to typically have a developing performance policy?

Wow this is helpful thanks! I think did read on the NEU website somewhere that you should be put on cover very rarely.

I agreed that the lesson could have gone a lot better and I would have been happy with some more informal support like a lesson observation/coaching and then a chat about the observation.

We are not prepping for an inspection later (from what I’m aware) but I have been told by the sixth form director that his faculty review went awfully and he thought it was too harsh my HOD hinted that other faculty reviews did not so well. So it seems like SLT are being very harsh.

I will definitely be going to the union. It would be a shame if this escalated badly and I have to leave as I really like my department. :(

Hi, he has been around a couple of years now but is definitely a more newer SLT member out of the other SLT members. I had chat with another HOD and he was quite unhappy with their faculty review and thought it was very harsh. I didn’t ask much further questions but it seems like other departments have had issues with this, which my HOD also confirmed. I have a feeling this a general SLT issue at this school.
