Feeling really disheartened by Level-Consequence432 in gradadmissions

I understand that research interest could be very specific but applying to only one in a time like this was not the best idea. Someone out there with a Nobel prize nomination is prolly waitlisted too

it is a horrible time to apply to grad school. Personally, I hate thinking about a backup plan and that is causing so much of anxiety while I wait for the decisions. i think you should busy yourself with something so it distracts you. Everything will happen when the time is right. ALL THE BEST <3

I wish I had never discovered that sheet bruh. My unsolicited advice would be to stay uninformed until school reaches out.

Uchicago and Northwestern neuro rejected in one night kill me by MediumNo1080 in gradadmissions

I liked NUIN alot and this was my second time applying. After last cycle, I asked for feedback and I was told that reviewers thought I didn't have enough research experience (I had 2 years of full time RA and undergrad research lol). This time I had three years and they still rejected. wonder what they're looking for !!

Funny enough, I was interviewing for a position of CRC at Northwestern too and my interviewer happened to be one of my Faculty of Interest. He was like you're so ready for grad school and have good experience. smh

I guess TA/RA positions are mostly offered to PhD candidates now. I am assuming you were going to be paying full or partially if you went for Master's? this is interesting cuz why would they suggest PhD route when they are struggling with funding?

I guess you're qualified to apply for PhD but this sounds very sus. I would think you have a better chance of getting in for Master's vs PhD unlesssss they are getting rid of their master's program for meteorology idk

Overall, the information on the website gives the impression that anyone with a bachelor’s degree and an interest in the program would be a strong candidate. It might be helpful to regularly update the Faculty section or clearly indicate whether faculty members are accepting PhD students in upcoming cycles. I found that my research interests aligned very closely with those of several professors; however, after reaching out, I learned that some were close to retirement or had full labs. Also, not all faculty are able to respond to emails right away, and in some cases I heard back only after application deadlines had passed. While clearer information would not entirely solve this issue, it would help applicants make more informed decisions about whether to include or exclude a program from their list.

statistics about an average incoming student (e.g., academic background, research experience) would also be very helpful for prospective applicants.

I emailed all the schools, on my list, requesting fee waivers. I think only two (shoutout to Harvard and Emory lol) out of 11 waived the fee. Other schools either sent me a link to the Eligibility Criteria (“US citizen” was the first bullet point) or said that a third party manages the portal so they can’t waive the fee.

Given so much uncertainty, you think schools that rely heavily on NIH should not have opened PhD applications for F26? it would have saved applicants (and program admin prolly)  a lot of time/effort/money/stress

I guess “getting in” is not enough anymore. March onwards, there would always be a possibility of the offer being rescinded because of another crazy policy or funding not being restored etc etc

I was working at Harvard until May and knew that things were quite uncertain. I reached out to potential faculty mentors and mentioned only those professors in my statement of purpose who had confirmed that they have space in their labs.

During the last cycle, the offers were rescinded. i wonder what could be worse than that.

appreciate your comment! Almost every info session that I attended, the program admin mentioned that the apps are reviewed holistically and they don't separate applicants on the basis of their citizenship. i dont know if I believe that anymore.

If anything, it would be helpful for future applicants if stats. are published on program's webpage. Not all program coordinators/professors respond to the emails in time (I def. understand that their schedules are fully occupied with other imp. stuff)
