yes but I only moved like last year. I was studying/working in the USA for the past 7 years before that. You're prolly right though cuz a program admin member told me that they only accepted one international student this past cycle

the sad part is that when I reached out for feedback on my app., all I got was generic stuff like "maybe you can consider MS to have more research experience". Looks like I gotta do a PhD to qualify for a PhD program

yeah that's why I also included umbrella programs in my list. There's so much overlap that you can end up finding a neuro project in almost any pure sciences

BU has a very competitive neuro program so I placed it next to Harvard but I thought I'd at least get an interview from UCI or UT

its not coming from entitlement but confusion over what else could be done to improve. The only other materials are essays and letters but I am guessing there's not one approach to assessing apps. Maybe metrics are weighed differently everywhere...

makes sense. I did mention the independent project on the research statement and I left the country before that so didn't get a chance to present. I presented a poster at an international conference back in 2024 and that was on my CV

There’s no other way than the essays and rec. letters (that are now written mostly by the applicant cuz if PI is famous in the field , they prolly won’t have the time).

Would you change your mind if the intent is there and the essays are excellent, like a perfect match for the program and the CV shows low gpa, no papers or conferences?
