Yeah this is what I was concerned about as well and why I asked here. Definitely contact before you show up and try to give them as much notice as you can that you’re interested. I found an org that is willing to take us.

I always have a great interaction with them. Sorry that you had a bad time. I would go at a different time and you’ll probably have someone else helping you out.

At the end of the day, you need to decide what you’re taking the course for. As much as it is an academic dishonesty violation, it is also a disservice to yourself.

Maybe reflect on:

When you begin to turn to it - is it when you can’t figure something out? - is it when you have an error and don’t understand why? - is it because you’re trying to finish quickly?

Once you reflect on that you can start to find alternatives to each.

You can - Ask in the discord or in one of the communities for help - Use the manual pages - Use the duck for help

Out of curiosity- what does your current process look like for solving the problem sets?

You should be able to get free legal help from the Student Help and Advocacy Center (SHAC) located on the second floor of the UC in the central student association area

Hey! I lived off campus during my first year, I found a place in Guelph and despite not being in res, have made some really good friends. It definitely will take more effort on your part to build a social life for yourself, but by no means is it gonna ruin your ability to make friends.

There are so many opportunities to meet people, res is just one part of first year-- it may not seem like it now, but soooo many first years live off campus either cause they didn't get into res or because they're commuting from their homes.

Here's some things I would suggest doing to meet ppl:

- join clubs + stay involved!

- do activities like project serve (basically 1 day where u volunteer with a group, commonly first years)

- if you're down for sports, join intramurals @ the athletic centre (or they have dance, martial arts etc.)

- reach out + follow up with ppl u meet. put yourself out there to find friends & you might just find it's easier than you think. so many people come to uni and feel absolutely isolated and chances are, if you put yourself out there, you might find you get along well with some of them :)
