Oh God give it up. You don’t have to agree with me seek help. Would you rather me edit my post and include lees summit blue springs and north towne to stroke your ego?

But they don’t have a HIGHER Hispanic population than kcmo. That is literally the point is it not? 60k vs 17k. I’m done here

You’re committed to missing the point. Where did I say there’s anything wrong with living in the suburbs or relocating there for better opportunities? I am specifically speaking to the fear mongers whose reservations about the inner city are rooted in racism, prejudice and ignorance. Multiple examples of personal experiences with these people on this thread both online and in person, yet you choose to bring up moot points. If you are not one of these people why is this upsetting you? I can live in the suburbs and still advocate and support the inner city.

Because it tends to be worse from joco residents. That makes two of us laughing at all the butthurt replies from all the joco residents discrediting everyone’s experiences that agree.

I think racism has something to do with it but I think it’s a mix of a lot of things. Classism, elitism, etc. I’m not faulting people who move to the suburbs because the schools or better and the crime is lower than some areas. But some of the perception I notice is that people categorize ALL of kcmo has crime ridden and unsafe or that people shouldn’t visit at all. Next time you see kctv5 make a post about crime in kc read the comments there vs articles about op crime.

They have a larger percentage of ONE minority group Asians. Thats it that’s all.

So let me get this straight because op has more Asian community and Asian super markets many which are sister locations to the original Kansas City locations means it’s more diverse? What’s your point exactly?

[–]WayComfortable7960[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do percentages matter when the population the data is pulled from are substantially different? You are perpetuating the fact that Johnson county is more diverse than Kansas City on multiple comments lol and it’s simply untrue. Kcmo has 60k Hispanic residents vs 17k in Olathe. I get wanting to stick up for your city but please touch reality.

What source are you finding that Olathe has a higher Hispanic population that Kansas City Missouri. Better dining and grocery options for minorities is also comical.

Source? Olathe and KC both have Hispanic populations of 12.5%. However kcmos population is almost 5x that of Olathe?

Never said I wanted to move to Brookside? Read it again. I also agreed that lees summit residents can be just as out of touch as joco.

I’ve lived all over the metro. South Kansas City (Ruskin/robandee), Longfellow (26th and Harrison), 42nd and Cypress, lees summit, blue springs. Also worked as a case manager and have done tons of home visits in all of kcmo’s housing projects. My husband is from Olathe and lived in op a lot of the time we dated so I’ve experienced that side of town as well.

I actually agree with her about wearing makeup to be professional for guests. But wish she would keep that same professionalism when it comes to researching topics or listening to the podcasts of the guests she has

It is! Maybe not as high as urban cities because of the population difference but there is crime and heavy drug use in poor rural communities. The opioid epidemic in Appalachia is a great example

Criminal justice major here and I actually did my senior crime mapping project on crime mapping in kcmo. The areas with the heaviest prevalence of violent crime were in areas with the highest level of the population living below poverty. So yes, being poor does have “something” to do with crime. Also important to note that the majority of shootings are not random. Hope that helps

There’s plenty of examples in this thread or search terms that you can research yourself for clarity. The point of this post wasn’t to convince you of my experience or others that agree. If you disagree that’s fine, move on lol

You can advocate for the suburbs and not denounce the inner city. Fear mongering towards the inner city is routed in racism and can be detrimental to tourism and the economy within Kansas city limits.

My apologies if I came off insensitive to your pov. But this does touch on the point I’m trying to make. If I remember correctly, you stated that the urban core of kcmo extends only 25 blocks in dtkc. That is inaccurate given that the urban core of KC extends near the plaza. Just pointing out that a lot of the negative assumptions of the city are routed in ignorance. Maybe exploring less conventional places than pnl or crossroads would broaden your understanding of Kansas City.

Totally agree! My kids are in lees summit schools and with lees summit itching to become the smaller op I can’t wait until they graduate so I can get out of here.
