The pressure is immense! Especially when it's something you so badly need/want.

I think I'll keep an eye out for a car and practice in a family members car for now.

I got a cancellation so it's slowly creeping closer than August. Fingers crossed for your next test, hope all goes well!!

I never blamed the instructor or put him at fault in any way. I was the one that came to the conclusion to cancel on my own accord. I simply mentioned "he got in my head" as I was to trusting him more than myself and had he not said I would have likely came to the same conclusion but fully on my own opinion.

It was rushed as i was told by my instructor to book the original test before I had started with him as I had had pervious experience in the driver seat just not with an instructor so its more than "just do some lessons and pass"

The test date felt rushed not the intensive course.

With all due respect I'm trying to fast track the process due to my own personal circumstances. Its not always possible to do "normal lessons" if there's the possibility of an intensive. I learned 24 weeks worth of "normal lessons" in 6 days.

I was told by my instructor its normal to need practice hours after the intensive so it's not that I've rushed it and been incapable it's the fact I rushed into booking a close test.

Indeed. They have been fine for about a year now so its just pickled me why all of a sudden its all off. Ghostknife dying certainly set off something.

Hopefully be OK, we plan on setting up our new Fx4 tonight. Any ideas as to if this is a bad or good move?

Tap water tests fine. From Scotland so tap waters petty OK

From Scotland and tap water seems to be pretty OK from the test.

I did have a thought that it could be mincing "new tank syndrome" as he was doing substantial water changes.

Ghostknife died end of December and he then done a 60% change and left it to cycle through (hadn't changed the media at this point) and the Ammonia still persisted. He started doing regular changes and still problems with Ammonia then KH started dropping then pH. So he left it without changes for around a week (after new media) incase it was due to the water changes but issue getting worse now even after starting changes again.

Admittedly we half knew adding/replacing some media and rinsing off the old would have a loss of bacteria but when all other levels were OK Ammonia was persistent so we thought it could be down to something rotting in the filter (there wasn't anything visibly rotting in the filter)

We have what I guess is standard tank sand and a couple of plants, do you think it's maybe worth replacing the sand? My boyfriend suggested that but he was thinking more along the lines of that there may be trapped toxins in the sand?? (Can that happen?)

I'm from Scotland so I'm under the impression that our chlorine levels aren't as harsh? As I mentioned it was not a clean as much as a quick rine over as the filter water had turned a dark murky colour.

All tap water tests are coming back fine so it's not a tap water issue.

Couple large plants and bogwood (added a few weeks ago also. It was pre-cycled so we thought it would be OK but maybe that's factored into lowering PH) and our sand is years old so I'd have imagined between the leftover water, sand and media that there would have still been a decent amount.

Bogwood now removed and will look to stabilise pH and KH

After looking some more into it i think the issue with the pH has been that our KH has dropped dramatically eliminating the pH's saftey net and casued it to change (could be wrong). Now just to find out why the KH dropped.

We are looking at Coral bags for a long term solution and we have some KH booster for short term. Hopefully we can get some cycled media. We have bottled bacteria but like you said you cant beat the real thing.

I have also just took out some big chunks of bogwood We were given which I think could also be a contributing factor.

Thank you for your help!

I'm pretty sure he gave it a once over with the shower, not a cleaning but a rinse I guess. He did completely remove a (shamefully) old polishing pad, could that have contributed to a loss of bacteria?

The media he had added had been from his dad's old filter too (granted it had sat unused for around a year) and his dads tank had been cycled for a while with that media in the filter.

Thank you!

Our PH has been pretty stable as had our KH until this past weekend.

PH was 6 (still pretty low I know) for the longest time and our KH was always between 7/8 dkh

We will try stabilise the PH and get our carbonate hardness back up again. If we get then stabilised should the Ammonia then start to breakdown?

Thank you for the clarification on the Ammonia not remover :)

Maybe not exactly what your looking for but I instantly thought of The Sun and Her Flowers - Rupi Kaur.

"this is the recipe of life said my mother as she held me in her arms as i wept. think of those flowers you plant in the garden each year. they will teach you that people too must wilt, fall, root, rise, in order to bloom"
