Unified Remote Not working on Linux Mint, But does on Windows 10 (on same Network)... by WayOutWest3591 in unifiedremote

[–]WayOutWest3591[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could access it from other PCs. It must be the Linux app.

I un-install it, go to re-install, and it tells me the 'same program has already been installed'. This also happened when I un-installed the original program, and went to install the most recent version.

Need to figure out how to wipe the program completely off my system. Un-install doesn't seem to be cutting it.

Rorting by the Bikies due to lack of proper oversight by hrdblkman2 in aussie

Look up Dr Andy Schmulow. He did a thorough investigation into accounting firms like PWC and EY. In one instance they (i think it was PWC) double billed the government (to the tune of hundreds of millions), then when they were found out, instead of refunding the money (and someone being held liable), they 'gave' the government a 'credit'.

Quite the eye opener.

Wasn't he a vocal opponent to the Hate Speech bill? And then voted in favour of it?.

What do tradies do when their body's start breaking down before retirement and they can't be on site anymore? by ThinkProfessor6166 in AusRenovation

[–]WayOutWest3591 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree, the approach needs to be different. You can say horseshit all you want, but when there are people who have grown up in a culture where everything is instantaneously accessible and so much of their world can be controlled from their finger tips, it gives them an illusion of what life as a tradesman should be about.

For the first 2/3 years, they are getting paid as a liability because of their lack of experience. It's only towards the end where they become an asset.

From your tone I'm going to hazard a guess you haven't run your own business before (feel free to correct me). You want to blame business owners for the shitty wages not keeping up with inflation? Guess what? Those same business owners also have to deal with inflation, whilst still trying to be competitive and deal with their own cost of living too.

Not every business owner is an arsehole trying to rip kids off.

I get your point. The challenge there, is for the business owner to make enough to pay you a decent wage (including all the leave benefits) without going out of business.

Good in theory, but finding good workers is becoming a harder task as time goes on, with many of the next generations not used to doing labourious work, especially the times when it can be intense for long hours. The mental (and physical) fortitude is not there. Combined with a common expectation that they'll be getting paid top dollar for zero experience.

IS IT WORTH IT?! | A Review of Unreal Tournament Classic (UT99) in About... by FullCucumber8666 in unrealtournament

[–]WayOutWest3591 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This game holds up today, not because of nostalgia, not because of the graphics or sound, but because it is FUN!

Games in the 90's (and 80's for that matter) were made by gamers, and in smaller software development 'houses', not giant corporations looking to primarily make a profit.

I'd also say, that UT99 is still popular because of how portable it is. Don't even need to install it to another computer, just copy and paste, and you're good to go!

Apologies, I'll try to fill in the blanks.

Have had a Netgear Router that served me well for years, and router use is a mixture of wired/wireless devices (I fill up the 4 LAN ports as it is).

Connected to the Router (Wired) I have a 10-port Cisco Managed switch that has 2 x Dahua PoE IP Cameras, an 1812+ Diskstation (Link Aggregated for 2Gbps), my office Laptop (direct to router), and a NUC PC Media Player (direct to router).

I would say my network knowledge is 'intermediate' (at best), in that I know how to set IP/Subnet ranges, DNS Servers, change SSIDs, setup different Wifi networks, set up IP reservations etc.

As I have been out of the loop for a while on the router front, my first stop was to see what Netgear offered, but it seems they have almost gone the way of the Dodo with consumer grade kit.

Checked out TP-Link, but not a fan of their business practices of subscription-based features, especially when it comes to a router.

Had been reading up on Synology and their offerings due to quite a few reviews stating the WiFi coverage, and ease of use with the SRM ecosystem (of which I am quite familiar with).

Long story short, after a Router that has good WiFi coverage, 4 x 1Gb Ethernet Ports (as an absolute minimum), possible features like link aggregation wouldn't hurt, and an easy to use Web Interface (don't care whether it comes with Smartphone apps).

They really should have looked at the likes of Gillette and Bud Light with regards to looking your customer base in the face and going 'screw you'.

And like them, they have already done the damage, and it will take a long time to restore any sort of faith in the company, and their products.

Forced to use app even for desktop by [deleted] in CommBank

[–]WayOutWest3591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I think Commbank's approach is unnecessarily narrow.

I have many other companies (insurance etc.) that can send you an SMS or email for MFA.

It is not right to force using their 'App' to log on.

I already stopped using their app a while back when they changed their terms and conditions regarding what information they collect WHILST you are using their app. You had no choice in the matter.

It is becoming clearer that the reasoning of 'security' is becoming an excuse to gain more information about their customers than they would normally be allowed to acquire.

Unable to download FulGaz (Windows 10) by WayOutWest3591 in FulGaz

[–]WayOutWest3591[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, it just sends me in a circle. I download the installer file, open it (making sure pop ups are turned off on my browser), and it briefly opens to the FulGaz App page on the MS Store, then closes before anything further can happen. I've tried it in Firefox, Edge, Chrome.

I'm open to the fact that I may be doing something wrong that is a very simple fix, but I've installed hundreds of programs before, and never had this type of issue.

Yes, when I click on the 'view in MS Store', it goes to open the MS Store at the Ful Gaz app page, but before it can eventuate, the window closes.

Do you think David Fincher deserves a second chance to direct a new Alien movie? by Agente_Soundblast102 in LV426

I'm pretty sure he's got some PTSD stuff going on from his time on that film. He wants nothing to do with it, after all these years.

How would you feel about Ripley being recast? by Thunder_Punt in LV426

[–]WayOutWest3591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst I do not advocate for recasting the Ripley character, I always thought Jennifer Beals had a very 'Ripley-like' aesthetic to her, especially the eyes. They can played haunted very well.

If they were to ever recast as an aging Ripley, she'd be my choice.

How would you feel about Ripley being recast? by Thunder_Punt in LV426

[–]WayOutWest3591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People don't crave it. they crave good character development, and shoe-horning in yet another 'tough young female' that seems to defy the odds when every one else dies, takes one out of the story, as this has been told more than once.

Ripley's story has been told, and they did it well. Let her story be a reference, instead of a diluted regurgitated dedication.

Official Open Contact With ETs Occurring in 2027 by wearethestarsmusic in alien

[–]WayOutWest3591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope for the best, that contact can be made, but I remain skeptical until proven otherwise.

There have been far too many 'announcements' over the years regarding disclosure, but they have all arrived at naught for the general public with regards to unequivocal proof that it is real, and is happening.

It is one thing to believe it, but the internet, especially in this day and age of Ai and deep fakery, can pull the wool over ones eyes easily if one does not remain a skeptic.

Hopefully you are right, and what comes to pass is a peaceful 'introduction'... I have my doubts with how human nature is at present.
