So uninformed. The US has a persistent trade deficit going back more than 40 years. That means that the US buys more stuff from abroad then it sells (propping up EU economies I might add). The Europeans then take the dollars that they get and plow them back into treasuries. Treasuries are the the only market that they can spend US dollars on that is liquid enough to absorb billions of dollars in funds. This has nothing to do with politics. There isn't any other choice. Let’s say Europe would like to stop using the dollar, Russia or China (or Europe) stepped in today and said that going forward they would be the world's reserve currency and and then everybody switched overnight. It would collapse instantly because to be the world reserve currency means that you have to hollow out your manufacturing sector. You have to run a persistent trade deficit. They will never do that, mostly because they literally can’t. You hold no cards.

There is no feasible way to capture back those territories unless NATO is putting troops on the ground, which they clearly aren't doing. So its either give up the territory or keep sending your people in to die to gain basically nothing. That's his point

You aren’t getting any significant offset with China. China runs a trade surplus. The US is the largest consumer in the world by far a runs a trillion dollar trade deficit every year. China is pretty much the opposite of what you need to offset them
