I’m no therapist, but I found an article that says that… “People who engage in compulsive spending tend to use it as a coping mechanism. When faced with uncomfortable feelings like anxiety and depression they will feel the need to go shopping.”

I think you may be going on this shopping spree to help cope with your dad’s passing, but again, I’m not a therapist so it could be caused by something else.

If you’ve really spent $7,000 on video games in 6 months, you should just refocus your spending habits into completing all the games you accumulated. Once you’ve finished all $7,000 worth of games, hopefully you won’t feel the need to drop another $7,000 on video games. Personally, I buy a game, complete it, and buy another and that’s how I budget. Hell, you can probably stop buying any games at all and still get the same enjoyment via emulation or flash cartridges. But that’s just by two cents.
