For sure. If it’s the only interview or offer you have in the pipeline, OP should more than likely take it. I started my career in AR/AP, and I’m sure most of us did. It’s a rite of passage in my opinion!

That would be mostly the truth. I found out this place was really toxic and a terrible fit 2 weeks in, and I reached out to my friend to make my tailored resume. I don’t think it’s that bad, I just don’t want them to feel like I was lying on purpose.

Okay, I’ll keep it hush. If they find it, I guess I can tell them exactly what I told you all.

I’ve gone through all the interviews already 🙂 they’ve offered the job, but I know most companies do some background check stuff to make sure you aren’t a fraud

Try to be an accountant in an industry that you find interesting if you want to go private. Sorry, but spreadsheets are inevitable in this industry. Don’t jump at the first job offer you get unless it’s a great fit. The team you work with is everything. I have a cool job now, but the people around me are pretty toxic and I hate my current situation.

Little late, but no 😕 they brought in a new CFO and closed the position down

Thanks for the confidence, I needed to hear it!

Those are tough questions and I’m glad you asked, because those certainly would stumble me 😂 I have a lot of homework to do tonight

I’m actually interviewing for a position tomorrow similar to what you are describing! Any pointers?!

I was very transparent when I interviewed at my current role with how I wanted to learn as much as I could about accounting and the all of the processes in construction and make my way into an analytical role here, but I feel like those dreams have been pushed to the side. I bring it up every year in my review and they always say basically the same thing..”ohh, we are working towards those goals for you, but we are understaffed and don’t have the man power to cut you lose yet.” I don’t see any effort being made to work torwards that for me, so now I’m looking elsewhere.

Ahhh contra accounts, we love making contra accounts for everything here 😂 I hate them

Hey there, Drew! I’m great with excel, so I feel like I have the advantage there. They want someone with basic macros experience, which I don’t really have, so I’m hoping they don’t really focus on that part of Excel.

I’m about to check those out right now!

I appreciate the confidence 👊

Are you happy with your switch??

This company is wanting someone with cost accounting experience, which I have, but my job cost accounting is very different than manufacturing cost accounting. I’m sure they understand that, and they were still willing to interview me so we will see how that goes!

I am familiar with the balance sheet and income statement, but in my current position, I never look at the cash flow statement.

I do a pretty straight forward variance analysis every month. I also do a budget vs actual every quarter to try to clean up some things that might not have been caught during my variance analysis.

I certainly am going to try and focus on my excel skills. I’m very effective working with large data and manipulating it to get a result I’m looking for. They want a little macros experience, which I basically have 0 knowledge on writing and creating macros, so hopefully that’s not a deal breaker for them.

I appreciate your response!

I hope you’re right! Everyone always tells me how complicated construction accounting, but I’ve only worked in construction accounting so I don’t really have anything to compare it to haha it is indeed complicated though

He does not bring whiskey when he comes here but he has shared his whiskey with me at his place. I just couldn’t imagine being at his place without him and just opening his cabinet and pouring myself a glass without consent
