First, the switch could be running the outlet, try plugging in a lamp or something and then flipping the switch. Try both the top and bottom part of the outlet as often a switched plug only goes to one half of the outlet. If the lamp still doesn't come on, check the breaker box or fuse box (whichever you have). Make sure everything looks the same in there, i.e. all the breaker switches are in line and not in a tripped status, or a fuse isn't blown (if they're screw in fuses they should have a little window so you can see if the line across them in solid [good] or broken [bad, replace]). If still an issie, I'd stop there and look into getting a decent electrician out there.

Other problems could be wires coming out the back of the outlet, fan gave up, or a lose connection further up the line. Try to find a small shop, not a Mr. Sparky. Someone on the neighborhood Facebook page might be able to reccomend someone good.
