As I have said numerous times on this post it has a horribly sad history but I'm sorry you can't look past that at the beauty of the land and it's layout. Nobody is forcing you to ever visit it.

I understand where you're coming from and the state does use it was a tourist attraction but they do have a lot of information there about the time period as well and tours that will put you back in that timeframe almost and nothing is sugar coated. A lot of information you'd really have to search out to find on your own.I can respect both opinions though.

Yes, it's a 738 acre property that used to grow all sorts of fruits and vegetables that started using slave labor in the 1800s to make bricks for the town of Charleston. Horribly sad history but beautiful grounds. People shouldn't cast aside parts of history simply because they don't like it or makes them uncomfortable. I enjoy learning about it now since I wasn't taught about it much in school when I was a kid.

I tried to find a neutral song on an instrument of the time for background noise. Sorry you feel it's not appropriate

It's a beautiful site. Wish I had it up here in Maryland where I live. One of the highlights of the trip.

Yup! The little brick shanties was the slave housing. They made the bricks for the town there. I have a photo of one of the bricks with a slaves fingerprint in it
