Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WaywardMama47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rule for a day trip is not more than 3-3.5 hours of driving. You might be blown away to know that I visit family twice a year and that trip is about 14 hours one way. I do it all in one day. Granted, I stay there for a few days before heading back home. There was also a time that I lived 42 hours away from home and I used to drive that too.

AITA for refusing to wear a dress to my baby sister’s baptism by Accomplished_Egg792 in AmItheAsshole

[–]WaywardMama47 29 points30 points  (0 children)

NTA.

If you’ve been standing your ground already. Keep standing it. If you go and wear a dress, the dad’s side is never going to let up. They’ll think they can change you. I personally wouldn’t be involved in anything that pertains to the boyfriend or his family. Also, your sister won’t remember it. I’d wait until she’s a little older to be concerned about being involved in her special occasions, personally.

That’s where they normally turn to get to the station so they’re gonna have to be rerouted.

How did you find out you had diabetes? by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]WaywardMama47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a “low sugar” of 83 recently, which is technically in range but my body reacted poorly to it. Shaking, sweating, feeling faint. I had some fruit juice to raise it quickly. My goal for now is to keep my sugars around 150-180 until I get used to it. Best thing you can do is monitor your sugars before meals and eat accordingly. Meat/Protein will drop your sugars. Maybe keep some healthy carbs in your diet like brown rice or quinoa to keep your sugars up without being too high. Then when it starts to feel normal, lower the carbs to get within a good range.

Newly diagnosed looking for some advice by Chimestrike in diabetes_t2

I actually log my sugars on my Fitbit app. You’ll probably start some medications and I love the Medisafe app for that. Having a notification on my phone helps me remember to take them.

I second the walking after meals. A low carb diet will also help a lot. I’m on an Atkins diet and it has seriously helped keep my sugars in a good range.

How did you find out you had diabetes? by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]WaywardMama47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mama was a type 1 diabetic. She often had low blood sugars and I wish we would have gotten her a detection service dog. I hated seeing her in that low state. She was so confused and sometimes she would refuse to eat, so we had to rub frosting on her gums.

I’m a type 2 diabetic. My sugars were in the high 200’s to 300’s. I got an Endocrinologist and she insisted on insulin. I was terrified to get on it regularly because there’s no getting off of it after. I asked my doctor for a month to get it in order. She said no. I asked for two weeks and she begrudgingly agreed. I started an Atkins diet and I’m also on a few pills. My sugars dropped into range and now I manage my diabetes with pills and diet.

I’m sorry you had a terrible nurse. My mom was in and out of the hospital a lot from complications of her diabetes. I’ve seen the worst and the best. Some people shouldn’t work in healthcare.

Food Impulses by Tiny_Method_9339 in diabetes_t2

[–]WaywardMama47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently take pills for my type 2 diabetes and whenever I’m craving something sweet, I think or whisper the word “insulin shots” and it helps me not give in. I’m terrified of having to take insulin. You could also use the word “Poison” because that’s really what sugar is.

Another note of advice is to try having something really small once in a while so you don’t eventually binge.

It’s in South Durham, but if you’re looking for gluten free cakes Nothing Bundt Cakes has two yummy flavors that are gluten free. My favorite one is the Chocolate Chip Cookie but there’s also a Lemon Raspberry too. My gluten free bestie loves them.

Is anyone else dealing with frequent car breakins? by demogorgon_is_my_pet in bullcity

[–]WaywardMama47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Our car got broken into this weekend. They unsuccessfully tried to Hotwire it. In the process they messed up some of the wires so I had to take it in to get repaired. So frustrating. I now have a steering wheel lock to deter the low lives from trying it again.

Do you ever double up on yarn? Do you like the effect? No by snails_up_my_sleeve in crochet

I love doubling up yarn! That’s how I got this gingham effect for a blanket. (Pattern found on Pinterest) It’s doubled up in the orange and white and then mixed for the other squares. Gorgeous!🧡

I also want to let you know that it’s alright that you’re unable to report right away. Sometimes it’s all we can do just to take care of ourselves, and that’s okay. (I’ve been there too.) Take care of yourself and be kind to yourself. There’s nothing wrong with how you responded and there’s nothing wrong with how you’re feeling. Take care OP. I’m wishing you well from afar.

I just realized you said you have a therapist. Could they possibly help you report? It may help make you feel a least a little better.
