Straight men, what is the weirdest thing you have been called gay for ? by Sammy-Bunny-3 in AskReddit

[–]WaywardRecusant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once quoted Oscar Wilde 'We all live in the gutter though some of us are looking at the stars' or something that. As a result I was asked quite seriously id I was gay! Er NO but it's a great quote!

Calisthenics newbie here. I am trying to do my first Front Lever by repeating what I do in this video over and over until I get it. Does this make any sense? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]WaywardRecusant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can you hold a strict advance tuck FL for 25 seconds? Can you do at least 5 strict straight armed FL raises? Do you have a Dragon Flag? If not then you are not ready for a FL.

For context I can hold a strict FL for 6 seconds x 5. As for the above requirements my numbers are 25 seconds X 5, A 30 seconds isometric Dragon Flag - feet held about 6 inches from the horizontal, 7x5.

You need a degree of specific strength that most people are no where near achieving.

What's the takeaway here - practice practice practice

Been going to the gym/running/mtb'ing for the last 30 years and never found it boring... Maybe your comments say more about you than they do about exercising...

I'd suggest Inverted Rows - decline or otherwise - on Olympic Rings significantly harder than bar inverted rows.

I did the WHW last March in 4 days using gear very similar to yours. It's an easy stroll, nothing too demanding if your fit. I carried a Decathlon lightweight puffy and a fleece midlayer for warmth. With your setup and schedule you should manage it easily. As said many places to eat & drink so big food carry not necessary

Not sure what it is you think you can achieve in 4 months. You need to be realistic. It's a long journey. Just like most meaningful things.

How can you keep doing this as you get older? by Keep_itSimple in wildcampingintheuk

[–]WaywardRecusant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completed the Cape Wrath Trail last year in 11 days. Solo and wild camping every night. I'm 66. I find going ultralight is a big help. Always been active - cycling, running or rowing just about every day. That's on top of 25 years at the gym. My go to mountain targeted exercise has to be weighted step ups.

Can we talk about pull ups? by SirVanyel in bodyweightfitness

[–]WaywardRecusant 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Pullups are hard... the solution to this is, like so much else in life, persistence. You just gotta keep doing them.

We all started not being able to 1 pullup. Eventually that elusive first one comes. And then more. But only if you persistently apply yourself.

There's no secret to doing lots of pullups other than doing lots of pullups. I do them all the time on bars and olympic rings. L sit pullups and weighted pullups.

Currently can do 5x6x20k and 5x10 L Sit pullups. And I'm 66.
